I've even had people tell me that they were cursed because "the curse" was late, and ask me for a counter spell.
This ain't the movies....it's real life.

For those that wish to know:The usage Magic was given a big push when it was used in the Malleus Maleficarum by Christians. Did they change the spelling from 6 to five letters is another debate.

Well, I think it is the same as those who become Christians and see miracles in everything and every where. I am Wiccan but I do not see magick in everything or everwhere. My path is more on the religious, worship and ritual side.

i see this Phenomina in most of the new members of my Grove.

I think it is in part because Pagan religions attract people that are outcast's from the social norms. and they are despirate to fit in somewhere. so when they have a little bit of knowlege they over-apply it and see it in everything that the see or do.
in an attempt to gain acceptence from their new group of friends, and extended family.

most of these people are also very young (spiritually) and most have not had any spiritual experience previous to this.
and again they simply over-apply it.

nahgurl,

Magic, is spelled by most Wiccan folk with the extra K for 2 reasons.

first it is to define a religious belief in magic as a type of prayer.

and second because the founder Gerald Gardner wanted to make the word 6 letters so that it would devide by 3 evenly. 3 is a sacred number, as are 6 and 9.

the rest of your comment i cannot understand, try useing that proper spelling that you insist that others use next time.

Crowley did start the magic with a K idea. but Gardner applied it to Wicca. as we are talking about Wicca and not Crowley's Thelmic religion, i saw no need to refrence Crowley. he influenced Gardner, but was not a force behind Wicca.
Usually only the B.T.W and the Gardenerian Wiccans use the "K" spelling. and Americans that pick it up form New Age books that mis many different systems.

I use the K spelling when i am talking about both Magick as a religion, and magic as a slight of hand trick or illusion.

Actually the spelling `Magick' is a Crowley thing, not Gardner.

I've been a Pagan for over 20 years and initiated into Wicca, never once asked to spell it with a K on the end.

There are a lot of people new to Paganism who will say whatever they think will get them approval. When you have people telling the newbies things like `There is no set way to practice Wicca' and such, you are bound to get those who will say just about anything and attribute anything "out of the ordinary" as magical if they think it will score points.

I have also over the years seen people see so much more in their just everyday life in a very short time being involved with the craft....
I will add this to the already very good answers above me, that I think that it is also due to 3rd eye opening...
It is said that the Brow Chakra usually opens between ages 35-42, but with "spiritual stimulation", I believe that it can open a lot earlier....

It is an unfortunate truth, not everyone who joins a spiritual path does so for the right reason, or is suited for that path. As such, one will always find folks who "try too hard" to fit in.

Sometimes this comes in the form of making up stuff, or assigning a mystical meaning where there actually isn't one.

My opinion, their eyes are finally open to the magic around them. As to why they see dark magic, trump that up to inexperience.
