chi owners?

Question

i might get a chihuahua.
do they bark a lot?
are they really hard to potty train?
did you ltter box train yours?
could you tell me about yours.

I used to have a chihuahua when I was younger. His name was Chico. I got him when he was 12 weeks old and he was a very very very smart dog. Almost to smart for his own good. Chihuahua's can be very hard to train on anything. One mistake that we made with Chico was trying to litter train him. One day my grandpa came in the house and started to train him to go outside. He got confused and just peed wherever he felt like going. My suggestion to you is if your going to get a chihuahua then you should start out by potty traing them outside. Not on newspaper or the litter box because it's very easy for a dog to become confused. He wasn't very yappy. Infact he didn't really bark unless he was playing. I hope I answered your questions. I once had a Chi when I was a child, his name was Pee Wee and he was the best ~ don't remember him barking alot but I do remember loving him so.
Other than childhood, I personally never owned a Chi ~ but my mother has had 2 since I have been out on my own.
Both dogs were very different in personalities; 1 was very partial to my mother, she was anti-socialable, not a friendly dog at all and did not bark very much even when the door bell rang. My mother paper pottie trained her so when she got older, she just flat refused to go outside so my mother had to continue using pottie pads til she passed. The other one was very sociable, friendly loved people, pottie trained in a snap, but barked at just about everything including herself when she passed my mothers full length mirror in her bedroom.
So, just like people are different, I so think dogs are tooo ~ depending on how you yourself train your pet will depend on how your pet will act.
If your serious about getting a Chi ~check into obedience classes; if you have a Petsmart in your area, they offer many training classes and are relativity inexpensive.

I find that if you train any dog they will not be yappy.
I have 5 chis and they are allowed to bark when someone comes ot teh door but if I tell tehm quiet no problem.
All mine I had no problems gettign tehm trained.
I have litter trained before with no problem.
I have found that yorkies and many other small breeds are more yapier than my 5 chis put together.
