I hear all the time that the LDS church is a "cult" because we worship Joseph smith instead of Jesus Christ. I want someone to prove to me that we worship Joseph SMith instead of Jesus Christ. and use our own words, from the scriptures, o from the Ensign magazine or talks from our current leaders. Don't go to anti-Mormon sites, like ex-mormons, CARM, IRR, MRM, or wahtever.

dances with poltry, I joined the church in 1979, and have been active ever since. I don't know what church you went to, but we don't talk about Joseph Smith NEARLY as much as we talk about Jesus Christ, and this has been so since I first joined the church. I've been to Ohio, Utah and California and they all talk about Jesus Christ more than Joseph Smith.

You know, when the Bible says to beware of FALSE prophets, that would mean to me, that conversely, there are also TRUE prophets. It doesn't say, beware of anyone calling themselves a prophet. It says, beware of FALSE prophets. that means, only look for the TRUE prophets.

You justify to yourself that you don't believe that Joseph smith was a prophet, but you haven't proven anything to me.

Well there's that song in the hymnal...even as a member I thought we were taking time out to sing a song about a prophet rather than Jesus. As a member, I did sit and count sometimes how many times I heard Joseph Smith's name versus Jesus Christ, it was about half and half, which is still sad in and of itself.

First I would like to say this again when I was seminary class Joseph Smith Funeral was recreated that's weird. that proven fact this has happen before. When I was Mormon I felt it was all about Joseph Smith. Jesus Christ states in John 14:6 I'm the way the truth and the life no one comes to the father expect through me. Which means no Church can save you. Just Jesus Christ a alone .

Boy, you are asking for some fun answers huh? It sure is interesting to see what others have to say about this. Without being able to go to the anti sites, is there much left for them to regurgitate?

I don't think most of them have even been to a service to listen to what is really said, or even read anything put out by the church, or by LDS authors. I just read a really good one called "The Peace giver". Guess who that's about? It for sure isn't about Joseph Smith!! I think if more people would take a look at what most LDS authors wrote about, or tried to at least understand what we really believe, they would realize that Joseph Smith was a small part of a whole picture, which centers around Christ.

Let's just see what people say to this question!!!

At the risk of hurting any ones feelings or the fact that we could be related I will say what I observed when I used to be a Mormon 30 years ago. There was never any mention of Christ in worship service except when sacrament was served. The sermons consisted of teaching about Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon. There were no crosses to be seen anywhere in or on the church.
Things may have changed or the church I went to with my parents and grandparents at that time was poorly managed. They would not even let people of color go there.
I'm not trying to disprove anything but am being honest in what was happening during that time.

Um, I've never heard someone claim that you Mormons worship Joseph Smith. Are we feeling paranoid, dear?

But I am anti-Mormon. Here's the scoop: The bible talks about the appearance of false prophets toward the end of the world.

So here we have the world's major religions -- Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, etc -- around for thousands of years. That's pretty established. But lo and behold, Joseph Smith appears and founds his own church, and even has the temerity to borrow Christ to try to give it legitimacy. Jesus appeared in North America? Hmmmmm.

Sorry, he was a nutbag, and a false prophet, and your pseudo-religion is invalid. I mean, come on -- what the hell is up with "converting" people's long-dead ancestors? That is the height of impropriety and disrespect for the dead. It's just whacked out.

To me, Praise and worship are the same.

LDS Hymn "Praise to the Man"
1. Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus anointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.
[Chorus]
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.
2. Praise to his mem’ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assassins,
Plead unto heav’n while the earth lauds his fame.
3. Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true, he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.
4. Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know “Brother Joseph” again.

Well since you become gods, you take out Jesus from the equation and that puts a lot of attention on Joseph Smith. It was always taught to me that evolving into a god, meant that I really didn't need Jesus, except to confess my sins to, that was about it, the priesthood was for everything else (the god power of the men) so once again Jesus kind of fades into the woodwork. hes there, but hes not. Joseph Smith is once again in the limelight. All the missionaries do is talk about Mr. Smith, I know, my son hasn't taken his name off the church records and they are trying desperately to get him to stop going to my christian church. So were is Jesus in all this, I would like to know. I love to argue theology with them, because there is so much theology out there, I can argue armanianism with them or convert to Calvinism or whatever, because the missionaries are not versed in t he differ ant interpretations of scripture, but yet Joseph Smith keeps coming up.

People of Color Gaby? They are more Latinos in our church than White Americans and yes we worship Christ our Savior and our lord. 30 Years has put many misconceptions in your heart.

LDS people worship God our Father and his son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost our 1st article of Faith.

Hugh Nibley 17th point of how to right an anti Mormon book
is to use rhetoric instead of evidence.
Myulima proves that point.

without the concept of a living prophet it is very difficult to see the light.

Do you Mormon haters know anything about prophet Daniel, King David, Moses, Abraham, Jonah, St. Paul, just to name a few. Please name some of your favorite prophets. Now riddle me this...if you lived in the time of [insert fav. prophet here] how would you react to his warnings, teachings, and lifestyle??
