if you are a surround sound enthusiast then the best place for the sub is behind the tv. its worth looking at the construction of your room-do you have floorboards-it may be worth placing a thin peice of foam under the sub to prevent feedback along the floor-this also creates a sweeter bass note. building a sub into coffee tables etc is not unknown but some people do not like cables hanging about the place and you are limited as to where to put the sub (besides the missus might not like it). most subs like the corner of the room about ten inches from each wall the bass will then resonate off each wall along the floor and fill the room. if the sub is of the non-passive type (with its own amp built in) set the volume to about half but this depends on your set-up. hope this helps. ....to the poster below-you above everyone else should know that in the audio-visual world everyones requirements differ-no two listening rooms are the same-what may work for one may not work for another-but all rooms have one thing in common-they all have corners!!.

Hi.The Subwoofer should supplement the main speakers and only play the lowest frequencies(the lowest two octaves below 80HZ.) Most rooms are too small for the lowest notes to develop so what you hear are parts of a note.Putting a Sub. in a 10 foot room is ridiculous, The sound will be terrible. The money spent on a Sub would buy you better interconnects . The worst place to put a Sub. is in the corner of a room where the upper base notes could be exaggerated and become boomy. The next worst place is up against a wall.Putting the subwoofer in the back of the room might give you a boomy sound also and become disjointed from the front bass of your stereo speakers. It is very difficult to locate one area for one Sub.If your two front left and right speakers are properly located for your front sound the problem is solved by using two Subs. Some bass is always recorded in stereo so why not enjoy it properly with two Subs. If they are located close to your main front speakers you will get an even distribution of bass in the room and you wont have any directional problems. Also attaching spikes or isolation cones on the bottom of the Sub decouples it from the floor and helps to stop structural vibration from the floor .Like everything in audio ,quality is more important than quantity.Choose the clearer Sub. over the bigger one .

the best place for a sub is were it sounds the best in your room
the corner is often thought as the best place for a sub but it might not be the best place for you. you could spend thousands on test equipment or you could get on your hands and knees and crawl for good bass. no joke, ti works great. first place your sub were you sit if it is a chair move it and place the sub there next play a DVD ro CD with great low end. than, get crawling first in the place you want to put the sub move around and listen for a smooth and extended deep bass response, free of exaggeration and "one-note" boom".
than wen you find that sweet spot move your sub there.

Honestly the best spot would be in the farthest upper corner of the room away from the door. So when you walk in you would hear the music in a surround sound state.
