My cat Gigi is about 3 years old. She hasn't been eating anything for a few days. She won't even eat canned food or treats. I thought it would pass at first, but I started to notice she is getting very thin. I plan on taking her to the vet tomorrow, but I really want to know what is going on right now.

It could be heat, is it hot where you are? My cat goes off his food when it's hot and always loses a lot of weight during summer! He does 'pick' at his food though and eat some of it.

If you are concerned about the weight loss you should definitely get her to a vet.

Monitor her litterbox as well. Is she still going to the bathroom or could she be blocked? Total blockage is an emergency situation and one reason why cats stop eating.

Make your appointment with your vet as soon as you can. Cats cannot fast like dogs and humans. Cats can develop something called hepatic lipidosis which can be fatal. Try and get your cat in as soon as possible.

It could be any number of things: constipation, blockage, kidney failure, worms, a disease of some kind. Your vet will want to take her temperature and do some blood tests. DO get a complete blood test, not the basic one. It's not that much more and you really need to know.

Watch and see if she drinks water, and when and what she does when she goes to the bathroom. This information will be helpful to your vet.

Any source of discomfort may be the reason for a loss of appetite. It could be kidney problems, urinary tract problems, any source of pain, really. The vet must do blood tests and find out what's wrong. Good luck! I hope she gets well.

If my pet won't eat for 2 days, I take her to the vet. She's sick. Probably icu sick. Call a vet NOW. Unless you want to wake up with a dead cat.
