Well, people always need something to believe in. While science can explain a lot (and still working to explain more), I don't think it can explain everything.

I agree that religion isn't needed anymore, but not because science explains everything, it doesn't. There are many things that scientist have not figured out yet. They will eventually find out enough to totally disprove religion and, in my opinion, that day cannot come soon enough. The reason that religion isn't needed anymore, is the fact, that it hinder us as a society. Religion only serves to slow down the progression of learning, by holding so tightly to religious dogma. Slowing the advancement of education can never be a good thing. Look at the dark ages, when religion held the most power, to see what I am talking about. At one time religion was important in bringing order and setting up the structures for societies. Humans have progressed to the point where this is no longer needed and holding onto these beliefs is detrimental to our advancement. This isn't my belief, but a fact shown to us by observing our history. Hopefully, more people will come to realize this, so we can move on!

I think that that is false; science explains a lot, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a god; God could have created everything, knowing that we would want to probe deeper into understanding it. You have to have faith in a religion; almost no religion gives you a guarunteed miracle everyday proving that it is real, but you have to believe that it is; if a religion was proven absolutely true, how could God tell who really believes in him and who doesn't?

Also, there are things that science can't explain; like the beginning of the universe; I know about the big bang, and I think it's completely false; first, if everything in the universe came from a small, infinitely (has to be true for the theory to work, but no one can comprehend how) dense, and infinitismally small (another impossibility), where did that come from? We can not, no matter how we try, desribe where the first of anything came from; in order for matter to exist, there has to be energy; where did the energy come from? Even with virtual particles (that pop in and out of existence), they have to borrow energy from their environment; so, we need to find out where the first energy came from, yet it is impossible to even contemplate the basics of how the first energy came to be, especially since the rule of conservation of energy states that "energy can not be created or destroyed, only change forms); this is a huge paradox.

However, if we look at the creation of the universe by using God as the creator designing it, one who can do anything, it is all possible. People may think "how can someone be able to do anything?", but they are not remembering that God is not like us humans; he is divine, and a different form.

I believe that God is real, and that he created the universe; religion is needed to prove this, and also to help people; religion sets morals, influences laws and regulations (like the Constitution--All men are equal; which is seen in the Bible), and it gives people hope, without which, we would all of been gone ages ago.

Even if religion isn't real, it is still needed.

Neither science nor religion can replace the other. I know a bishop who says that science can tell us how the world was created, but religion tells us WHY the world was created. Aren't both important?

Even if science could explain the origins of the world without religion, it could not explain many other things, such as sin, redemption, grace, suffering and death, eternal life, and so forth. Thus, religion is still needed.

I think that science wants you to think they can explain the world! Just like science says that anything that makes money is healthy . Science in the sense that you are talking is another form of humans being herded around like sheep. I for one have no respect or belief in these so called scientists who time and time again have been proven wrong but they are still considered "educated" Who is educated? I for one have a brain and I decide for myself not because discovery channel says but because other educated people have different opinions and for some reason their opinion does not seem to be heard. I research both sides and every time their is a better more logical choice as to what they are trying to make us believe.

Science is excellent for the world.

But what about the after-life, and morality?

I'll lean on science for facts about history and such. I'll take my religion to explain the "why" of existence and the soul.

Many religions are so scary that they give kids nightmares, so those types of religions are not needed and not even true. But so far science has yet to understand people's inner lives, like meditating, love, feelings, hopes, faith, prayer, and the counteractive thoughts we have that can be called the ego, the devil, my inner dragon, fear, mental illness, Satan, my mother in law, etc. etc.
Now science is making progress in studying brainwaves and the effects of a spiritual life on our physical lives, but I don't think science even purports to explain all the mysteries..
Wouldn't it be nice if science could find everybody's
reset button? One touch to instant sanity and peace.

No. There is much that science Cannot explain. Man, without a regulator of his behavior, a faith in god, devolves into anarchy. So religion is still needed. Science does not explain the spiritual. Man is indeed spiritual. Plus science is ever changing, it takes no stand. for encouragement, listen to ttb.org.

For no religion : Fewer wars... john travolta could finally stop going really far to go to his scientistism conventions. People may be happier since they could focus more on rules than sins of flesh.

For religion : People would be without a motive, have no common sense/morals to follow that where imposed by something they view as worthy of their faith.... they'de just not be driven to do good since some are bad people.
