B&H and Adorama, both in New York, tend to consistently have the best prices on photo equipment. Both are excellent places from which to buy.

If you find prices significantly less, there's a good chance you'll find yourself in a classic "bait and switch" scam where the actual camera you order will be out of stock, and instead you'll be roped into ordering one that ends up being significantly more expensive than either of the above places.

In any case, the B&H price on the 5D is $2599, while the Fotoconnection price is $2099. That's a significant enough difference that I would be wary of buying from them.

Resellerrating.com reveals a rating of 2.9 out of a possible 10 for fotoconnection-not very good, and indicative that they should be avoided.

ALWAYS check http://www.resellerratings.com/ before buying a camera on-line.

http://www.resellerratings.com/store/FotoConnection_1 says that there are better choices. FotoConnection has a 2.18 out of 10.0 rating. They seem to have a love-them-or-hate-them record with their buyers, though...

I prefer the safety and service of B&H, but I know they aer not the bottom price. They are REASONABLE all the time, but not the bottom.

The 5D is an awesome - and expensive - camera, no matter where you buy it. I don't see any now, but check B&H from time-to-time for used stock. I'd rather buy a used camera from them than a new camera froma rip-off artist.

If a price sounds too good to be true you should probably avoid that seller. The previous advice you've recieved is very good.

One question to ask ANY seller is this: "Does this camera have a USA Warranty?" If they answer "Yes it does!" you're probably safe. If they reply "It has a full manufacturer's warranty." its likely what's known as a "gray market" camera.

Gray Market means its a camera bought in another country and then imported by the seller. Although a genuine product, the warranty is only good in the country it was sold in. Having to send your camera to Taiwan or Hong Kong for warranty service can be expensive and time consuming.

I bought mine from B&H as mentioned by others here. It's such an expensive camera that I did not want to buy locally (sale tax)--but there are "stores" out there that are not as dependable like B&H and I would not try to save a hundred or two (or more) just for that. You might end up waiting weeks to get your camera as they may not have it in stock, or they may end up selling you a gray-market one.

p.s. Don't try to save money when you buy a lens for this camera.
