divide your body weight in half. that's how many grams of protein you should eat. so if you weigh 140 lbs, eat at least 70 grams of protein.

3 ounces is much more than most people need. That would be about 84 grams. It's customary to state it in grams, since it is a rather small amount. For most adults 60-70 grams is enough for health and muscle development. The government recommends about .8 grams per kilogram of body weight.
Too much can be dangerous, so be careful. Wendy, you're way off. By your calc a 180 pound man would need 90 grams a day, which is a huge amount.

About 1 gram per every one pound of body weight (don't think in ounces for this one). I strongly suggest to work out while consuming this much protein because if you don't then you'll get buff but in a fat way.
