I have always wanted to become an independent filmmaker, but I'm not exactly sure how or where to begin. Are there any filmmakers or film students than can give me any really good advice?

Basically join a film union or a club this will get you started. You can get connections with many people who do the same thing and acess to the right equipment id say google it for you area

Yes... me... contact me via email and I'll see how I can help you, if I can. I'm an experienced filmmaker and photographer, but I'm learning the new digital technology now. However, a close-up is still a close-up - some things do not change.

My advice is that unless you have such a burning desire for it that you are willing to take a 90% chance you will end up broke, don't go for it.

There are plenty of books that recommend how to go about this. But for the amount of books out there telling how, I would expect many more filmmakers than are out there. I suspect that to really get in the business you have to know or bl$% someone.

purchase a digital camera, lights, stumble on a scrip, positioned out provides for auditions (and actors will do issues for loose, in basic terms for the adventure and for a resume). additionally, attempt to locate human beings in university (yours,, your destiny one, an area one) that prefer to do what you prefer to do (or act, costumes, makeup, ect...) because of the fact they're all somewhat ambitious and could prefer to do it for relaxing and to positioned on their resumes as properly. reliable success!
