No sugar, no chocolate, no fats, no fried foods, very little if any meat, wash your face a few times a day, exercise, drink water regularly, eat vegetables.

Firstly I cannot believe some of the answers?!?!?

The Mom who suggested the witch hazel is brilliant.
I would also recommend rosewater if you find your skin is oily in the T zone and dry on your cheek area. Popping is not a good idea as that spreads the bacteria to other pores.
Gentle, regular washing with a cool rinse and a good cleanser. My son had quite a problem and he now swears by Sprecto-Gel.
I also use a q-tip and Tea Tree Oil. (available at most pharmacies) Apply to each pimple. If you have sensitive skin you can dilute the Tea Tree with pharmacy grade olive oil.
I have a dear friend who suffers with acne as an adult and tried the proactive system. Though she did have some success, she found it addicting for her skin and very expensive. You do not want to have to buy this stuff forever.
Modifying your diet may help also, avoiding overly salty, sweet or fried foods.
Most importantly be good to yourself. You are much more than you appear to be, develop your inner beauty, spiritual self and you will feel improvements on many levels.

There are SO many things you can do! But before I go on to list them all... let me just tell you, that a dermatologist can be a great help in clearing up skin... but more often than not, they look for the first medication they can give you, instead of addressing the underlying problem.

That being said... Heres what you can do...

If you have bumps on your skin, but they are not really red or forming pustules:
--- You may need to change your diet. If you are allergic to something (such as wheat or dairy) your body may be releasing those toxins through your skin causing you to break out. You should also be sure to drink plenty of water, getting plenty of rest, and exercise... sweat those toxins out!

If you have red, swollen, sore bumps that are forming pustules:
You may be using too strong of products, are not practicing a proper skin care routine, etc. Heres what I would do: Get a really basic cleanser... if you are on a budget I would get something like Cetaphil... if not go to a spa and get a sensitive (non-foaming cleanser) Use it only at night, tone in the morning (you can use the proactive toner) and moisturize. Try not wearing make-up for a few days (to see if thats it) and cleanse, tone, and moisturize at night. Leave your skin alone! If you see that a pustule has formed, wash your hands, cover your fingers with tissue and push DOWN on either side of the pimple (DO NOT push the pimple into itself) lightly push until clear liquid is coming out... that means you have cleaned it out. With pustules... you can also put a dab of toothpaste on it at night to dry it out.

Hope this helps!

1- Proactive works really well... BUT once your skin has cleared up, if you continue using it, its going to be too strong and will cause your skin to be irritated

The products you are using, are they salycic acid or benzolyl peroxide? BP can be VERY drying. I personally like SA better. Almost all washes have it. They try finding a face lotion with it in it. Clean and clear has a good moisturizer with SA and it helps keep pimples at bay. Personally, I use Biore products (which you get over the counter. Their products range from $5-$10). They are harsh on pimples, but not on your face. I think you will just need to experiment with products until you find what works for you. Remember, it can take 1 month for products to fully begin working!
Personally, Proactive didn't work for me. I have been using Biore products for over a year and I hardly ever break out! Occasionally I will get one or two, but nothing bad. For body acne I use Neutrogena acne body wash I never break out on my body. It gets 110 in summer so sweat in inevitably, yet I never break out. Give it a try. All of it is cheap too. About $5-10 depending on what you buy! Salysic acid it really good. It is in almost all acne washes. Benzoyl Peroxide is too drying fo rme! Good luck!

Wash face 2-3 times daily. Use a gentle, water-soluble cleanser and tepid water. Apply a medicated cream, such as benzoyl peroxide, to potential problem areas. Use non-comedogenic moisturizers and makeup. Avoid overmoisturizing the skin. Use the lightest-weight moisturizer necessary. Use a mud mask once a week to clean out pores. Try a medicated refining mask that cleanses and corrects problem skin. Wash makeup brushes and sponges frequently to minimize dirt and bacteria.
Consider taking flax oil on a regular basis. You need to keep your system clean. But, you don’t need to spend tons of money on vitamins labeled nature’s cure. All you need to do is to flush your system of unnatural chemicals and preservatives that might be triggering your breakouts. You can buy flax oil anywhere.
Drink 8-10 glasses of water per day. This will flush your system from all impurities and toxins.

goodluck ;)

Hair products: Sometimes gels, mousses, even conditioner and hair spray can get on your face and block your pores, causing zits. Use any styling product/spray sparingly around the edge of your face, and cover your face when you spray all over (seriously, even a piece of newspaper held up in front of your face!).
Wash your face every night, but use something gentle, like Noxema. Too harsh will strip your face and your skin will produce even MORE oil!
Use witch hazel as a toner/astringent.
Get some tea-tree oil. When a zit appears, dab it with the TT oil 2x a day.
Drink lots and lots of water. It helps flush toxins out of your skin. Trust me!

Good luck, kid!

The best thing you can do for your skin is drink lots of plain water.

The second best thing is lay off caffeine drinks, and chocolate.

Anything that has caffeine can dehydrate you, and keep you from getting rid of the bad junk in your body.

It is hard to get used to drinking water if you were raised around allot of soda and coffee I know. but you would not believe how much better you will feel and how much nicer your skin is if you leave the junk behind you. Limiting soda also has the added benefit of helping your waistline as well.

I am not a LDS so this is not religiously motivated, I am someone who was told this by her doctor.

Wash your face with Witch Hazel...It can be purchased in any pharmacy for about $1.50.

If you broken skin, try putting a triple antibiotic cream on it to help heal the skin!

I have a 16 year old with not one blemish on her face and all of her friends caught on to the trend! Go Mom!

Make sure you wash your face every day
The best thing to do is to avoid touching your face at all costs! There are a lot of oils in your fingers and hands that you don't want on your face!
Drink lots of water, too.
I like using a once-or-twice weekly pore-cleansing face mask. :) It clears up my acne and makes my face feel really smooth.
You can get them for like a buck in K-Mart

Come over and I shall pop them. Popping zits is fun. I dont' seem to get them anymore. I'd suggest washing yoru face every morning, and before u go to bed, If your between like 12- and 18 it's a lot harder to keep ur face clear of acne, cuz of all the chemical changes going on in your body. Just do the best u can.
