there are minimum physical standards that you must meet if you are to enlist or receive a commissioning. some Branches will be more willing to waive or overlook some issues than others.

Yes! it does help if you are some what fit but if you aren't you will be once you are done with boot camp and I am talking from experience myself, now if your talking about a serious medical condition that would hamper your training that you won't even make it pass the initial physical to enter the military it does not matter what branch of service it is they all have the same guide lines when it comes to joining the military there is no getting around it.

You need to be physically able enough that you are able to get into shape, but you do not need to be fit. You will get fit by the end of BT (Basic training) I can promise you.

So as long as you are not seriously physically disabled you can join. Most people, speaking from stories my mom who was in the army told me, are not in very good shape when they join, although being in good shape before joining would sure make things easier for you.....

Marines you should be physically fit. In a run, especially in basic training, if someone falls behind the whole group has to go back and get you, and push you forward, and in most branches people will just yell at you and get on your back. In the marines, however, you will get the hell beat out of you. In fact, your CO (commanding officer) will kind of halfway tell people to do it. You could be beat so bad you can't move, and, in rare case, people have even died........

marines, hell yes, you'll want to be fit BEFORE boot camp. Army is the same however people CAN get through without having been as fit initially. Fit or not, if you go into any service's Basic Training, you'll come out fit (except maybe the airforce-but you'll be good at folding t-shirts!). Part of BT's mission is to make you fit even if your not at first.

to join any military organisation you need to be fit because if you are becoming a soldier, not matter if its a cook or infantry soldier you are a soldier first in wotever role you choose and because of this need to be able to fight and physical fitness is key to winning. some parts of the army require less physical requirements but still need to be of a good level of fitness

Not really a necessity but it does help.
.But be prepared for some hard work if you're not, but it can be done.

My favorite; running. I could not do a 4 minute mile, but I could do it in 6.
