I previously posted a question about mexicans coming over here for a better life about 9 hours ago. I can see that I asked it the wrong way, but some people still seemed to have understood. Some other people brought up other points about other countries as well. Others brought up isolated situations where they had bad experiences with illegals from mexico. Although unfortunate, I wouldnt place blame on ALL illegals just because some did wrong. Thats just stereotyping. No one group of people is perfect. As for costing the taxpayers money, true, I know many illegals who leech off the system via welfare, but i know just as many that get screwed over. They work all day, taxes come out of their checks. They do everything a citzen does, but get no insurance benefits, tax refunds, or licenses
So now my question is, WHAT WOULD YOU DO, if you lived in poverty, oppresion, etc; You are the head of a family and theyre suffering. You tried to get in the legal way, but it didnt work. What now?

I agree that it is not fair. How come certain immigrants have these benifits and not others? They pay taxes, work and earn a pay check, send their children to school. all the normal stuff, yet they are denied the other benifits of being a citizen. But then again, even a citizen struggles with insurance benifits. Hmm, things that make you go hmm.

There is a legitimate excuse for every crime imaginable, but that doesn't make it less of a crime. Just because you can't think of a better, or more frequently, an *easier* solution to your problems, that doesn't justify your crime. It is by far *easier* to walk across the border than to stand and fight and change your environment to make it better. And it's not like it's a surprise that Mexico has poverty - so perhaps better family planning would be in order - as in, men should stop banging every woman in sight and making lots of babies that they can't support. But then, you wouldn't have any sympathy for a single man with no dependents sneaking across the border, now would you?

Make my country better like Americans did and work hard to change it. If illegals run away from their own countrys problems they will only do the same in America. Why should be only accept the losers in the world? Illegals do not pay property taxes for the most part, do not pay for a public education and send their greenbacks back home to ole Mexico with the hopes of returning when they have enough stash. Americans have caused this problem also by hiring them and this should stop. Let them go back home and fix their country instead of crapping in ours.

Countries have the right to secure their borders.
Every country in the world has immigration laws and every country enforces them.
If they entering the country (any country) illegally, that country has the right to deport them. And its citizens has the right to DEMAND that their government enforce its borders.
Coragraph said...merely crossing the border, in and of itself does no harm to anyone, which is a half-truth, unless they damage the fence or dig a tunnel or in any other way change the security of the way they cross ...and unless the illegal alien happens to die in the desert. But the moment they throw trash or garbage, defecate on, or destroy property, commit burglary, damage fences thereby releasing livestock , etc. This is when it no longer "causes harm to no one." And this is common in border towns.
When illegal aliens actually enter the society of the country they invaded, THIS is when it begins to cause a direct effect on society as a whole. And these have been covered "ad nauseum" on this site.
The comparisons to Germany and Russia are NOT comparable. These are NOT citizens we are talking about. They are ILLEGALLY in the country.
It would be more accurate to compare MEXICO to Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia.
"But in Mexico, when it comes to the treatment of its illegal aliens it's, ‘Do as I say, not as I do.’
Mexico has called U.S. immigration policy "harsh," and has called the proposed wall on the U.S. Mexico border "shameful." But some have called the Mexican immigration policy "hypocritical."
"Enter Mexico illegally and you're treated as a felon. If you're caught by the Federal Police, you'll be fortunate if you're only deported immediately. The unfortunate are robbed, abused, raped, or even murdered by corrupt police officers."

Get a bunch of people together and revolt, not have more kids than I could support (or none at all), try to learn a skill, not run away, try to improve my own country somehow. where theres a will theres a way and I dont think running away solves anything. America isnt a worldwide babysitter. Businesses that hire illegals should be fined for they are reinforcing the problem by hiring them.

If I broke the law and stole education funds from others for my own children, I would expect to pay the price if I were caught. Not to be given the right to continue to take those funds for myself and my descendants forever.
We have very good reasons for our limits and our own children's schools are failing and our hospitals are closing. What about OUR people? Who between those here illegally and citizens should our government be putting first in this situation?

I think it's better to change the laws to reflect the reality of life, than to try and force life to conform to arbitrary laws.
That being said, the law is the law -- if someone breaks it, they should be punished in a manner proportional to the severity of the law that they broke.
Failing to fill out immigration paperwork is roughly comparable to driving without a license or operating a business without a business permit. It's a paperwork crime that (in and of itself) causes no other direct harm. So, you convict them of a misdemeanor, pay the fine, fix the problem and continue with life.
People talk about how illegal immigrants go on to commit all these other crimes -- welfare fraud, tax evasion, robbery, drugs, whatever -- fine. Punish them for the crimes they commit. Just like punishing anyone else for committing the same crime.
But the rampant hatred and fear doesn't help anyone, and the calls of zero tolerance and massive deportations doesn't reflect the reality that those policies have never worked in the history of any country -- except Nazi Germany and Stalinist Russia, where killings were substituted for deportations. I don't think that's an example for us to follow.

I'd have to make the best of a bad situation and do what I could in my own country to secure my family and myself. There aren't too many ways a person is turned down, sexual violators or felonious people are though.

What I would or would not do is not the question. If I was starving would that make it right for me to rob someone?
