I take a few baits no matter what!
Live shrimp, gold spoon, sometype of soft plastic jerk bait(gulp,zoom...) strike king mini king spinner, jig n pig with craw chunk shirt cut back or small live crab!
Try a jig n pig some time they look like small crabs and work awsome for other too!

BEST lure is a gold spoon for reds. If you're not against using live bait, use live shrimp. Last red I kept, last week, I cut open the belly when cleaning and it was loaded with pee wee shrimp. Plastic DOA shrimp is a close second. Both will take trout & reds, but live shrimp beats all for me fishing in SW FL. back bays.

For "grass-fishing" saltwater flats you can't beat the Berkley "Gulp" Jerkshad, (in Sardine,New Penny,Rootbeer- Gold color) , rigged "weedless" with an Owner 3/0 offset hook. (This is my #1 "go-to" bait when they have lockjaw!) Cast this lure in "pocket's" in the weed's and HOLD ON!

Or "burn", (Burn-to reel your lure quickly above the weeds.), a saltwater spinnerbait like a "Redfish Magic" W/"Gulp" Swimming Mullet Body, over the tops of weeds.

Or use a Gold weedless spoon like a "Nemire Red Ripper" or Bagley "Chat'r B".

Or use a "walk the dog" presentation with a Pencil Popper like a Heddon "Super Spook" or Rapala "X-Rap 13".

Some Hint's: It is super hot from 11-6, and during these times fish ,(Esp Spec-Trout), may go deeper or find a "drop-off" near a dense weedline or shell-bar. In the middle of the day try to fish deeper "inside creeks" or Mangrove swamp area's.

If you can find moving water, you will usually find "active" fish.

LOOK FOR PODS of POGEY's & MULLET! Nothing "stir's up" fish like a bunch of bait!

Cast-net a Pogey school and use them as "chum" when you find a good spot to anchor & "ambush".

Always use a fish attractant like "Scent's of the Sea's" Pogey or Berkley "Powerbait" Shrimp to "sweet'en" your lures. Spray attractant on every 7th-8th cast. Your catch ratio will go up accordingly.

Use 12 LB-14LB flurocarbon leader's. I like Berkley "Vanish" but there are many different kinds.

Last RESORT: Bring live Shrimp or cast-net some Finger Mullet or Pogey's and find a good ambush spot to float them,( a good ambush spot would be near deeper water/shells/grass/with moving tide). Popping corks work excellent in grass situation's.

Hope this helps ya? Good luck!
