I live in a small flat, big walls but bad layout restricts places for the TV. I want to get rid of the TV completely and project something on the walls. I'm a complete novice. Advice wanted on a PROJECTOR (good makes etc) + sky/cable set-up. Please

Thanks in advance x

I got rid of my TV earlier this year and have been using a projector instead.

First off, light is a problem, you don't always want to sit in complete darkness, especially not if its summer.

Secondly, projectors are hot - this is a pain in the summer but a boon in the winter. Placement of your projector will be important here.

Thirdly, many TV shows are hard to watch on a projector - they just don't look very good. US drama stuff like Lost, 24 etc. is fairly cinematic so it fares well, but Eastenders, DIY and reality TV are so jittery its painful.

If you decide to go for it make sure your SKY box is outputting S-Video at least, I can't remember if sky does component, normal video is harsh to watch at large sizes and colours suffer.

Don't listen to those knuckleheads. Projection has come a long way in the last few years, therefore making it more affordable for the average joe.

With any of the projectors below you can easily obtain a spectacular 780p, upscaled to 1080i, that will blow you away. If you can afford 2K US then you could step up to a 1080p true HD pj, but unless you have HD DVD or Blue Ray there really isn't a point. Although the darker the room the better, you can still a get a great picture with enough ambient light to read by as long as there is no glare, just like with regular TV.

I would suggest however to look into a screen instead of throwing on the wall. You can buy screen material for a 10' widescreen for a little as $50 US, throw some nice picture framing around it and your in business. Try www.dazian.com for the fabric.

There's a lot of projection skeptics out there but don't let them deter you. For years we've had a 10' widescreen in the living room, an 8' in the bedroom and a 24' outdoor theater and they all look outstanding

good luck and feel free to email with any questions

Here are a few suggestions, and check out www.tigerdirect.com as they usually have some good deals on pj's.

Projectors could be costly , and you will could desire to maintain the room notably dark too. If it became me i could decide for an liquid crystal demonstrate television which will dangle on the wall.My suggestion is detect a shop the place you could attempt out those products and evaluate them. After finding out which product you choose , detect a shop that provide you the terrific deal.

Projectors can be expensive , and you will need to keep the room pretty dark too. If it was me i would go for an LCD tv that will hang on the wall.My advice is find a shop where you can try out these products and compare them. After deciding which product you want , find a shop that will give you the best deal.
