What do these signs on the back of dump trucks refer to? Following them accidentally into a construction site, or in case debris falls from the truck and ruins your car, is the sign sort of a disclaimer? Anyone know?

It's absolutely a disclaimer, although in almost no case will a construction vehicle or similar vehicle be held responsible if anything happens due to you following too closely. They can easily pick up stones in mud on mud flaps,or in the grooves of tires which can be thrown your way in transit. Best advise is to stay back if you like your windshield intact,or don't feel like buying a new windshield. Because if they end up throwing a rock into your windshield I assure you they won't be buying you a new one.

This is to dissuade people from following them off the main road into the construction area when the construction area is along a roadway. You'd be surprised how many people drive like they have blinders on... oblivious to what is really going on around them.

It means, like if you are on a road where the left lane and are following the truck, when he goes into the left lane, don't follow him.

It's not a disclaimer, but the only time a dump truck owner is liable for damage is if something actually comes out of the bed of the truck and hits your car.

do not follow is more like do not follow too close to
so if something falls off the back you can have a better chance of avoiding an accident or damage to your veh.
if a rock of debris fell off it and damaged your veh the company is responsible for the damage..
oh not to mention if you are nut to butt with them you are in the blind spot and if they stop suddenly you are going to crash in to them....
