I got the surname of one of the people wrong. Jet2 said I would have to pay a £15 charge, I said I would pay it. I called twice and spoke to 2 people about the problem neither mentioned an increasing charge. There were 2 separate flights, the outbound was not affected as I got the passenger surname right only the return was affected. They told me that I had 4 hours before the return flight which was at midnight on 4th August to call and change the name. I didn't have any money in my account so I said I would pay in a few days. They said that would be fine.

I was in Spain when I got a call from the person who tried to pay the charge. They said it had gone up to £87 as I had been charged hourly for not paying on time. The supervisor there called and said he had listened to the tape and the person on the phone mentioned the charge and that it might go up. He didn't mention it to me. My sister paid it and on her statement it said £97 had been taken out.

My holiday was ruined by this

I know they are not allowed to do this. They knew that once that passenger was in Spain they would have to pay the charge as they could not return unless they did. Basically we were made to pay under duress and on top of this the first day of my holiday was ruined by phone calls from England from my sister about what Jet2 were going to do. Can I also get compensation or refunds on top of getting the charge back?

Where can I get legal advice about this?

you got the surname wrong, and if you read the terms and conditions they are entitled to charge you. It happens every day and you will only be wasting your time and even more money in trying to get a refund.
If you had been travelling with ryanair you would not have got off the ground until you had paid so think yourself lucky they waited for your friend to pay, or your holiday would have been ruined. just put it down to experience and be more careful in the future

Your experience is a typical case of the reasons why I always advise people NOT to fly with budget airlines. They have so many scams, that they can legally enforce as it is in there tons of written rules etc. There are too many cases of passengers ending up paying more than double the fare that they would have paid had they flew with BA. I look at it this way, if I fly with Easyjet and the fare is £30 cheaper than BA, I have to get a train to Luton £20. Taxi to get to London Bridge, for the train, £10. That's my saving gone! Now, I have to pay for any refreshments on the plane £10. Finally, when returning, check in staff are working so slow that although I arrived in plenty of time, I reach the desk 1 minute after check in. They will refuse to check me in. I will then spend 1/2 hour arguing, when they could have had me on the plane. A supervisor will come along and they will do their damned hardest to make me feel guilty for being late?? I wasn't late, if anything, I was early but they will make it a big deal and insist I was extremely late and therefore could not have made the plane. Now, out of the goodness of their heart, they will offer to get me on the next flight, for £150. That's why I use BA and other National carriers. With budget airlines, you do not save any money. In many cases, they cost a lot more than most National Airlines. Once again, the rule applies, Buyer Beware!

The only thing that I can think of is to contact the Citizen's Advice bureau
