Don't worry about it. Criminals are supposed to be tough. Ask anyone behind bars.

1. If you did not leave with it then you did not steal it, you attempted to shoplift.
2. If the police did not show up then you cannot be charged with shoplifting. Here is how it works. They see you attempting to leave or leaving with the object and stop you. They must then hold you until the police show up. Now this is the important part; once the police are there they must swear out the complaint in front of the police officer. If they do not call the police and swear out the complaint while you are there then it becomes a "he said, she said" issue.
3. If you HAD to sign anything at Sears saying that you attempted to steal you have a case for false imprisonment. In a nutshell they cannot hold you and force you to sign anything before letting you leave. If they did call a lawyer and offer them 33% of the settlement to take the case (look up case law-WalMart-False Imprisonment).

they might only be sending you a letter stating you are banned from the store for x amt of time.
or do you think they will send a summons for court?
it's probly something going thru the corporate office. i would wait. or if you are worried call and ask for the manager and see what's going on.
maybe you won't steal again eh?

What letter, if they didn't call the police on you, probably no action will be taken against you, so count your blessings, and don't be so stupid again in the future. You may not be so lucky the next time.
