My friend is marrying my sister in law & they will be married in Lake Tahoe in August, 2008. He doesn't want to rent tuxedos....but doesn't want to make his groomsmen purchase a separate suit when they already have to pay to fly to Lake Tahoe. Are there any places that rent suits, or formal clothing other than tuxedos ? Any ideas ?? We are in the Chicago area.

Keep in mind, he wants everyone to look the same & he has one cousin standing up who is well over 300 lbs. He's worried that his cousin wont be able to get the same outfit if he has everyone buy something from a department store.

My suggestion would be to go to a Tuxedo store and ask for more casual wear for the groomsmen. They are stocking that type of outfit now, because more and more couples are doing destination weddings on beaches, on top of mountains, and in far off destination places. So, they probably will have more simpler suits too. There is a site I found that will give you a men's linen suit custom made to fit any size for $99.00. The site is called makeyourownjeans.com. But that may be too complicated because of people flying in from all over the country etc. Try the tuxedo store. Tru mensusa.com

Most tuxedo rental places rent suits as well. However a better idea is to rent a less formal tuxedo. Whatever the colors of the wedding are but something like this

A tone on tone tuxedo will look like a suit

an ivory tuxedo would be nice with certain color schemes

Champagne or latte tuxedos will also have a less formal feel and are very modern. many brides are going with that for daytime weddings or outdoor weddings

But like I said--most formal wear places rent suits as well if thats what you'd rather go with

How formal?! If it's laid back, just go wih nice matching slacks and a simple white button up shirt with a plain tie in the wedding color.

I would say wear nice khakis or black slacks with a nice white shirt. Or maybe even a shirt that matches the bridesmaid dresses. I hope this helps.

why don't they just wear nice slacks (Dockers come to mind) and a nice shirt, this is something that could be used after the wedding also.

White shirts, black or khaki slacks. Evryone has that or should. Inexpensive and can be worn again.
