Peacekeepers are pulled from a pool of militaries around the world. You have to be a soldier first. And that takes years of training.
I wouldn't go anywhere as a peacekeeper without training though....yikes!

Peacekeepers are typically picked from militaries... so most likely, so.

Mind you, the United Nations sends quite a few civilians as peacekeepers too, but they typically have some sort of valuable skill or experience - federal policing, for instance. I once looked up the UN Volunteers program... but it seems they only take experienced graduates of very specific degrees.

No But that's a very good question. There's a whole lot of Military types, veterans& Law Enforcement that could be a very good pool to draw from to make up a UN Peacekeeping force.
They could even create a UN Peacekeeping Trainng academy that individuals such as yourself could be trained in a Peacekeeping role. When you're availbale or they have a call out you could provide your service as a Peacekeeper.

But that proabably won't happen any time soon,The UN hires /bribes 3rd world countries to conduct peackeeping missions in order for these countries to obtain funding.
The Major Players ie Western Countries provide Peacekeepers symbolically & aren't there to enact any real change. Good Luck World Ciitzen

The UN uses member nation's military personnel to serve as peacekeepers. Often times, they use soldiers from 3rd world s***holes to do the job after the big headline grabbing US, Canadian, or British forces pull out. They don't need or want you kid.

And, for conranger1, that school must be using those 5 dips***s that got busted for murder and rape in Iraq as instructors, because UN peacekeeping forces seem to be really good at that. Oh, and selling guns to the rebels they are supposed to be disarming.

Contact the UN and request that you be hired as a mercenary peacekeeper. But you will need training before functioning in the above position.Enroll with one of the American Militant factions and receive training from them!

No, its not a game for kids.

Join the Peace Corps.

In regard to Kingpins dumb post, the U.N. already draw from the Worlds Military and Police Forces, the U.N. Training school is located in Ireland, and many countries send members to be students:

"U.N.T.S.I. - THE UNITED NATIONS TRAINING SCHOOL IRELAND

U.N.T.S.I. (The United Nations Training School Ireland) was established in 1993 as a school of the Military College with the principle aim of ensuring that the Defence Forces training for peacekeeping would be of the highest standards in all aspects of today's complex peace support operations. U.N.T.S.I. is also a centre which draws on the exceptional range of experience gained by Irish peacekeeping soldiers on many missions world-wide. The mission of the school, therefore, is:

* to study developments in peacekeeping in all its forms;
* to develop peacekeeping doctrine and to conduct training courses and seminars on peacekeeping in order to ensure high standards of performance by Defence Forces personnel on peacekeeping missions primarily, but not exclusively, with the United Nations.

U.N.T.S.I. regularly carries out the following courses:

* Mission specific training of Military Observers for all Irish supported peacekeeping missions world-wide.

* An International Course for Military Observers and Staff Officers (U.N.M.O.S.O.C.) of Captain or Major rank.

To date 198 Officers from 46 countries have been trained on this course.
* International Military Police Course.
* Debriefing - Personnel from all Irish peacekeeping missions worldwide.

In addition to the above mentioned , U.N.T.S.I. staff participate in Instructor Exchange Programmes with a number of peacekeeping training institutions in other countries.

HUMANITARIAN OPERATIONS.

Traditionally our troops serving overseas have provided humanitarian assistance to the local populations. This includes:

* Provision of medical and dental care.
* Restoration and repair of essential services.
* Rebuilding and repair of local churches, mosques, schools, etc
* Assistance to local enterprises.

The Defence Forces have also provided officers on secondment to the U.N. Relief and Works Agency (U.N.R.W.A.) in the Middle East and recently to GOAL, CONCERN and the ICRC in Somalia, Sudan and Angola.

There is no bribing any third world country to do service, all countries who serve are paid for their time and use of equipment.
The Irish are probably one of the first rate U.N. Peacekeeping Forces in use with the U.N.

In South Lebanon alone over 40 Irish soldiers have given their life in the service of peace.

A s s w i p e Joby10095, the 5 soldiers who commited murder in Irag have no connection to any United Nations Peacekeeping Mission, the are home-grown US Military personel who performed these murders, be a man or should I say woman, and put the blame squarely where it belongs!
And its the USA who are busy arming Iraqi militias not the U.N., they are also selling weapons to Saudi Arabia as well.
