my girlfriends in the army national guard in NY. she's at AIT right now, i work with a army national guard MP and he says that they cant deploy her for 6 months after AIT/unless she volunteers. is this true does anyone from ny have a story that damns this statement?

It all depends on the needs of the Army. If she graduates AIT and her unit is deployed she will rapid deploy to meet them if the Army believes it will be cost worthy for her to go. If she arrives at her new unit and they are about to deploy and they believe she is ready, she will deploy with her unit. The best place to get the answer is from her receiving unit.

Again it all depends on the needs/wants of the Army, and the Army needs/wants more soldiers.

When I first signed up 20 years ago before the actual graduation ceremony the gathered everybody together..... active, reserve and guard and passed out slips of paper telling all where they were going...... even if it was NG heading home.

Point is she can not only get deployed 10 minutes after graduation but will actually probably know it before. And yes, once you sign the paper it is and always will be if the Army needs you one can be sent right away.... no waiting period.

But it depends on a lot. If her job is a critical need one she can go right away. But much depends on if her home unit is deployed or on the short list to do so. If she joined an MP unit and they need MPs they would activate everybody as they need seasoned people more than the newly minted.

Odds are being newly minted and if her home unit is not deployed she will just be coming home. But your MP friend is dead wrong and he should know this. Possibly during peacetime there was a quirky state law stating that it would be difficult (but not impossible) to call someone up so quickly for individual deployment instead of the whole unit. So maybe thats why your friend may be mistaken.

Everybody knows that once you sign the paper they can call you up and deploy you at the Armys discretion. ANYTIME.

nope, she can deploy as soon as she signs into her unit. If they are ready for a deployment for Iraq, then she will go with them and if they have already left, she will most likely meet them there if they need her. And right now the army needs them.

But hey on the bright side is that since she is only National guard she will only deploy 12 months instead of the 15 month rotations that active duty army members are doing.

Take care and good luck

They can deploy her whenever they feel like it. She shouldn't have signed on the dotted line if you guys were worried about that.

sorry bud. they can deploy her ten minutes after she checks in to her command. If her unit is called up, she goes.
