The idea that the creating force of the universe is male or female (or a mixture) comes from old ways of thinking that humans were copied from something bigger and better. Most cultures believe that men are superior; thus god was male. Yet women create and continue the race; so gods have been female.
My concept of god is different. "God" is the energy field holding atoms together. The cosmic consciousness. Universal mind. Quantum field. The point where polarities meet and balance in perfect harmony. The terms "male/female" do not apply in the larger spiritual realm.

Who really knows the understandings of God? Male or female or both? I don't know, only suppositions.

Do not like the concept of duality, prefer to believe the energy within all things is spirit, god and simply within all matter. That which we cannot name.

I believe God is genderless... but I refer to It as She about half the time so I don't brainwash myself with pronouns. Once you establish something as a "He" in your head, it becomes very easy for it to be assumed to be male. (see yin's answer to see what I mean).

I don't think God would have a gender. It would have no need for sexual reproduction. Then again, perhaps there are a whole colony of sexually active gods up there. There's no evidence that disproves that either.
