The Ecumenical Patriarch is the spiritual leader of the World's Orthodox and is considered first among equals due to primacy extending back to the Council of Chalcedon in 451 AD where the Patriarch of Rome (aka Pope) was still in Communion with the other 4 historical Patriarchates.
Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I has had 2 meetings with Pope Benedict XVI as recently as November 30, 2006. They plan to meet on two more occasions in Ravenna and Rome by the end of 2007.
The Baptists, in the spirit of Martin Luther, have no spiritual leader. Each Baptist church is equal to the Papacy and the "Southern Baptists" are not a canonically recognized religious body by anyone.

Baptists are Protestants. One of the things Protestants protested against was the centralized hierarchical structure of the Catholic church (except for Anglicans, where the church was created by Henry VIII to get married again.) Therefore Protestant churches do not have an authority at the head. Having said that, some Baptists church organizations cling to their members like glue and pass their "membership" from church to church.
The Orthodox churches each look to a patriarch and in general look to the patriarch of the Eastern Orthodox church who resides in Constantinople/Istanbul. Just recently the patriarch and the Pope met for the first time.

Southern Baptist churches are autonomous -- they don't have anyone really over them.
The Southern Baptist Convention has a President and they have a convention and I think they vote on some issues -- but each church chooses its' own Pastor and can pretty much do what they want. They can't directly make them do anything - it's more of a guideline group..........
Individual churches have elders or deacons and, of course, Pastors. It's very different than say Methodists or Lutherans -- their Pastors are pretty much chosen for them.

There are quite a few different Baptist denominations, some have a central organization and some do not(independent). The Baptist belief is pretty basic and do not have a guru as their head, or someone in the past that was their prophet(except Jesus). Pretty good group of people, but like all groups, not perfect.

the org is the southern baptist convention. the heart of this org. is in dallas tex. no appointed person like a pope, but there is a committee regard all the money and holdings and it is billion and billions. many splinter groups. it is kinda mysterious and secretive like jews. only the insiders really understand who and which are the core leadership. somewhat like the mormans and the masons, for that matter. makes a more difficult target and they always consider themselves under attack. and often they are. sshhhhhh!

Neither Baptists nor Orthodox have a "head guy." Every Baptist congregation is independent, and every Orthodox Church (by country, autonomous or autocephalus) is independent.
