Sure it can be that God doesn't exist at all. But, it could be that God does exist and wants his creations to have free will while on Earth.

I'm sure god is just fine, and exists in many capacities. If we are observant we can see that there are rainy seasons in which the sun is hidden by clouds, it can be just so with God. But summer arrives, just as he said it would, and then we get to play!

This is simple to explain: G-d does exist and is ok, to those who believe. G-d does not exist and is not ok, to those who do not believe.
