Mostly. There are some pockets of Irish-Americans that have had the bad blood from the conflicts of 100 years ago passed down far more than the Irish in Ireland. And there are some people who hate foreigners, just like there are in every country. But most Americans like the British as much as people from anywhere else.
As for the respondent who said he or she went to London and thought everyone was rude - that happens in the biggest city in almost every country. I think this is also why most Americans think the French are rude - because they've only been to Paris. Imagine if a foreigner judged the politeness of Americans from spending a week in New York.

I love you Britts, I have the sense to know that not all people think the same or believe the same points of view. It's like here in America, I shake my head so much because the media is so one sided. So therefore all people are put in the pot as being a certain way or thinking a certain way when in fact that is not how I feel or see the world around me. We live in a screwed up world. I love all people, I know that all people do not act the same, we are all different. That is the amazing thing about this world we live in we are all different. It saddens me greatly that all the crazy people get all the air time and ruin it for all the people who are not like that and are just trying to live and breath. Anyway I love the Britts I think your great people, I would love to one day be able to go there and see the country.

I don't know any British people. I would like to visit England,Ireland and Wales someday. I can't believe that some of you say you "hate Americans". How can you "hate " an entire population of individuals? Unfortunately, television has portrayed Americans as a gun carrying, violent, arrogant, rich and snobby and always overweight group of people. Americans are very diverse. If you ever get a chance to travel in the U.S. , you won't believe how different people in N.Y. or Arizona ,Colorado,or the other states are from each other. We are a melting pot of so many cultures. It's great to travel state to state and experience different food and culture. Don't let television or the Bush Administration color your opinion of us. Television is for entertainment and is not always reality.

Britain has been America's best friend for many years now, and we Americans do appreciate your friendship. While we do have many differences, we have much more in common than most people think.
England is the "mother ship" of America.
There will be ignorant people everywhere, and this we cannot avoid. Meanwhile, while it is in vogue to hate Americans and the "Great Satan" right now, Americans do value true friendship in this world. We really do like the British!
You might find it interesting to know that the OLDEST treaty of Friendship, Commerce and Navigation the United States has was signed in 1815 by guess who--the British! This says a lot.

I asked this question in reverse a few weeks ago. I really like British people..hey! they gave us the Beetles!
I like your sense of humor!! the way we spell the same words differently, and you have some incredibly talented actors.
I know this is a little bit "tongue-in-cheek", but the to answer your question, "Yes", I like Brits (ok except my ex-boyfriend who is British!)
A girl from across the pond!
p.s. I thought the British hated the French so I'm screwed either way. I'm of French-German descent on my fathers side.

I've noticed the same thing, and it all just seems so stupid. I don't hate the British, and I don't know anyone that does.
We American's seem to be the target of amusement for alot of Brit's and also many other countries to.
Nobody's perfect, but everyone want's to claim they are the best. Just seems dumb to me!
I'm just glad to see that there's at least on person on your side of the ocean that doesn't completely hate us!
-Cheers

Please permit me to answer this question the other way around. I am English, and very proud of the fact,I am a patriot and love my country and it's flag as much as any of our American friends do theirs. Indeed, I have served my country in the past for many years. As a result of this I have served with various American units several times.I regard America and the Americans as friends. Sometimes on here , I take a little swipe at our friends,it is just banter to see who will rise to the bait ,by and large everything is treated rather humorously , as indeed it should be.Sometimes, regrettably, we get "nutcases" from both sides spouting rubbish that they know nothing about, just ignore them, cheers, "yanks"

Yes, I think generally Europeans dislike Americans, but we British like American.
I think Britain is more like America than any European conutry, which is party why we DON'T fit into the European Union and most Brits hate it. We have a good ally with the USA and don't need The EU.

They don't hate you, but they like you a little bit. I'm an Chinese American living in America. Of coarse there are just some people who love to hate. I heard that British people dislike american people though. They say were fat-bellied, drive giant SUV's that ruin the environment, arrogant, and rude. Is that true? I'm in America right now, and yes, some Americans are fat and rude but not all of them. American people have been very nice and polite to me. I hoped I helped!

I'm American and when I was in London I was treated like garbage. Left a bad taste in my mouth, so to speak. Before that experience, I liked the Brits...and still generally do but not quite as much.
