Cute, funny or just plain annoying?

I think it's adorable. :)

That depends on the situation.

If my boyfriend talks to me in his broken English it's just plain adorable (but that could also be due to the fact that he is adorable ;-). His native language is Spanish and it happens so often that you can hear in his English what he would have said in Spanish. And when I correct him he looks at me like a little puppy you just caught stealing cookies. So sweet!

Generally I'm a big fan of inter-language communication, because of interference mistakes. No, I'm not weird, I'm a Linguist. :-) I'm just really interested in the question of language acquisition, therefore I'm always eager for conversations with people who are still learning.
And God knows, how the other way round looks like, I mean, when I try to speak Spanish and others listen. They're probably all nearly having heart attacks. ;-)

If it is a situation of importance, the situation is slightly different. I always feel a bit helpless when someone with broken English asks me for help (with filling in a form for example) and they don't understand a word of what I'm trying to explain. Or even worse: when they are already at the office where they have to hand in this form and they have absolutely no clue! That is really bad! Offices are scary enough when you understand what people say, and I just don't want to know how it feels like when you are completely lost.

Broken English is the newer form of English. English originally came from England, and that's where old English is. Broke English is just another form of English with newer forms of word like America. America is a example of Broken English. Old English is an example of England. Broken languages are just another form of the original language. Like Spanish and Spaniard. Spanish is from Spain and Spaniard is from Mexico.Spaniard is a broken language, Spanish is the Original. Another example is the French in Canada and France. Canada would have a Broken French because it is different from the French in France.

If a fellow American speaks indifferent English I am certainly annoyed with him(unless he is a naturalised foreigner). Sometimes when I see the halting efforts of foreign visitors to expess themselves in what is called King's English my heart goes out to these struggling souls. I tell them that they can be colloquial and it would be OK.Sometimes I can gather what they want to say from their eloquent gensures alone and respond them in simple English. I especially tell them that here in USA we believe in being informal and not in standing on formalities. If a verb goes missing it is OK for me.

I am sometimes annoyed on this account. If I am around and they had experienced my sympathetic response I am called upon as an interpreter in their brush with others.

They have "guts". Sometimes I use short sentences in Spanish to be helpful, and I'm understood. Other times, the person looks at me like I'm crazy. It's tough speaking a language you learned as an adult and didn't get that much practice.

Its not that significant. Tech support that goes to india is sometimes annoying. I think they should send them diction coaches. I'm serious, not being funny, it would help both them and the customers to communicate better, and would be cheaper than actually having the tech support lines here.

If they just started learning it, it is understandable. What worries me the most is to see native speakers with broken English (and they even have a degree!).

Sometimes cute, hardly ever annoying.
Most of the time it doesn't leave an impression on me.

You have to give them credit that they are trying to learn
the language in the USA. It doesn't bother me.
My husband's Mom and Dad were from another country
and they did pretty well.
