I am used of eating rice with a spoon, but my aunt and cousins disagree with it and tell me to use a fork. Is a fork the more proper way? I do not prefer using a fork due to the fact that while utilising a spoon, you can scoop up more rice.

As an Asian I would say "spoon" and a fork on the left hand. It has nothing to do whether scooping more rice or not, but it's just reasonable. I know that in Europe and America uses fork and knife and uses spoon for soup and for some certain desserts. so as part of table manners, you better use the utensil that is on the table. You could still use a spoon if you're at home which I also prefer when eating rice. Enjoy!

I'm Asian and I prefer to use a spoon, spoon on the right hand and fork on the left left if rice is served on a plate. When rice is served in a small bowl, chopsticks. Yes, you can scoop more rice with a spoon!

Etiquette-wise, the fork is the proper way. Good etiquette is not aimed at scooping up a lot at once, it's about manners and elegance too I guess.

Personally I think it's fine to eat rice with a spoon at casual dinners at home, but if the occation is more formal then fork is better.

You will have to use both, you take spoon in your right hand and fork in your left. It helps you mixing, helps you with the meat or whatever you're eating with rice, and looks sohisticated too.
