I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-N2 camera and love it, yet the instruction booklet is soooo vague and Google answers are so scientific, impossible to understand what they are talking about.

Well first we should look up the definition of "calibrate".

cal·i·brate (kăl'ə-brāt')
v., -brat·ed, -brat·ing, -brates.

1. To check, adjust, or determine by comparison with a standard: as in to calibrate a thermometer.
2. To make corrections in; adjust.

If there is ever a time you are reading something and you do not understand what you are reading, go earlier a look for any words you do not know.

When you find a word you do not know, look up the definition of it in a dictionary.

Then start reading from the sentence the word was in.

When you do this you will realize that what you are reading makes more and more sense.

They may be referring to colour calibration. This refers to the fact that how our eyes perceive colour is different to how the camera's sensor represents it. Also once you copy an image to your computer, even though the bits and bytes in the image are the same, the picture may look different on your monitor and printer because they all have a "colour bias" that is dependant on the technical limitations of each device. Colour profile calibration refers to the process to try to get the printer photo looking as consistent as possible between the monitor and printer.

You might try a search for the Magic Lantern Guide to your camera. Quite often these after-market Guides are better illustrated and go step-by-step using less techie lingo.
