i wanna learn how to skateboard?

never even picked one up....
how should i start,,, dont say... buy a skateboard... cuase DUHHHHH
but llike.... should a beginner get a certain kind of board... and stuff like that

If you do get a board, you can get slower bearings (ABEC-3), though you won't be able to tell the difference unless you're going fast. I have set of original powell swiss (ABEC-7). The lower grade bearings will keep you from rolling too fast or far, even though the smaller sized wheels of today will pretty much keep you from going too fast. The bigger the wheels, the less you have to push off. You'll want to have your trucks tightened a bit more, so you can focus on balance and riding straight. It will help too when to try to learn how to ollie. I held on to a tree branch to learn the timing. When you hear someone tell you how its done, it sounds so simple until you try it. That took a long time for me to learn. I ended liking my trucks super tight, cause it helped keep me from wiggling about and bailing, although having tight ones limits your ability to do tricks.

I have one double tail retro graphics Caballero Dragon deck and still have my old school powell and santa cruz boards. I mainly rode a Jeff Kendall (Python) or Lance Mountain (Crest).These were vert boards and easier to stay on. I had super wide trucks (17?mm), big wheels (powell T-bones), and the classic whale tails. If you have one of these laying around not being used, its a perfect way to start. The old boards were more custom shaped or concaved, based on the Pro the particular deck was made for. Some of them I loved the artwork, but felt weird riding it like the Natas Kaupas decks. Not sure about now, but basically all boards are all the same shape, I could be wrong.

Or on the other hand, you want the new style ones...and assuming you're too old for a Toy's r Us "ninja turtle" deck. You can get complete boards really cheap. I think blank maplewood complete ones cost as low as $69. You wont feel bad trashing it. Don't get a fancy one cuz you might be inclined to baby it, not want to scratch the design, etc. My first board was a Sims Kevin Staab mini (Pirate). I saved up and spent $150 on it back in middle school. My dad saw me with it and asked how much it was. I told him and he freaked out, took it from me, and slammed it on the concrete...even before i got a chance to get on it. :(

Lastly it always helps to have friends that skate as well. It helps learning tricks go by and they can motivate you. I had some friends around the neighborhood, but they were too scared to learn ollie over stuff, so after that it became hard for me to progress any further (we didnt have skate parks back then). Its funny that back in the day, I used to think Mullen was weird with his freestylin' popsicle stick board and how he didnt kick it with the Bones Brigade, and then later how people were cheaters for riding double kicktails. And now after all that time I look back and realize that he's basically the creator of most of the moves today and that the decks are modeled after his old popsicle stick boards. Well hope I covered enough bases!

One last thing, be careful of small rocks when going slow (talking to your friend who is walking beside you-type of slow), I have ate it more times cause of those stupid pebbles than trying to do tricks!!!!

Most beginners go with Element boards.
I wouldnt start from element...Get a Zero board.Zero makes their boards high quality and with nice graphics.

Next youll need bearings.Bearings are rated in speed and quality.ABEC 1 being the slowest/worst and ABEC 5 being the fastest/best.Unless you really wanna go fast then there is no point in getting ABEC 5.Start of with like 3 or 2.

Next trucks.I would recommend you get Destructo trucks (you need 2 trucks). They have cool designs and are high quality.Another good company for trucks is Independent but they are more old-schoolish and their trucks are wider.(which can get in the way for some people)

Next wheels.Now this depends on what your gonna be riding.If your gonna be riding street then you should go with smaller and harder wheels.If your riding vert then go for the bigger wheels.For street I would get Zero wheels or the new Element Durathane wheels...The durathane wheels are made to NEVER get flat-spots which is pretty cool.

Now a lot of people overlook this (I did too)but the trucks dont come with the bolts.You have to buy those seperately.The bolts are usually called hardware, it doesnt really matter where you get them from. Pick the one you like best and remember the pack should come with 8 bolts and 8 nuts.

One more thing you MIGHT need is griptape.Some companys will give you a free sheet of griptape with their decks.But some dont.Griptape is the black stuff on top of a board that grips your feet to the board.

I'll tell you the real deal,dont go to a skatepark your first day cause you havent even learned to ollie yet and it would be a waist of time.Get a Girl brand board they have lots of pop so you can ollie no problem with it,Luckys abec 3 bearings ,tensor trucks,,ricta wheels, alright now dont try to skate with any K-swiss shoes get some skate shoes,I recommend Fallen,Emerica,Globe,Etnies,Adio,ES,Vans,and DC's now youve got your board and shoes your ready to skate start out by getting on the board with one foot forward on the nose and the other on the tail , now try it with the foot that was on the nose onthe tail and vice versa to figure out which way is comfortable after you figure this out place your foot thats toward the nose right below the screws on the deck and place the other foot on the tail. now while stomping down onthe tail with one foot slide the one thats below the screws up the board while jumping kind of and after you get the board off the ground you've ollied more ?'s on this email me at [e-mail] I'd recommend watchingTony Hawks Trick Tips 1,2 and 3on DVD its way easier shown then told and that'll break it down for you

go to a skatepark, watch people and ask them to give you pointers on the skate tricks, plus you should buy some jeans especially made for skateboarding jeans like CCS and ALWAYS wear sneakers while u skateboard!plus there are beginner boards but u really don't need it...

depends on your skill and how much time you are willing to put to it, also how determined you are to learn it's never too late to learn something! Not a wal-mart one, i would go to the local skate shop and check out some boards and they can give you some advice
