Why do people force things to be censored, or books taken off shelves, just because they don't like it? Wouldn't it be easier just to not read or watch the offending material? I mean, just because someone doesn't want their kid reading Harry Potter doesn't mean my kid shouldn't be allowed to.

Wouldn't someone banning a book I read be like me getting the Bible banned? It's exactly the same thing, and just as wrong--but I'd never think of banning the Bible just because I don't agree with it. So what's the purpose if not for personal attention?

Steve--I never made banning the Bible a threat--clearly that would be wrong. But banning any other book or form of art is also just as wrong as banning a Bible.

Sam--thank you for alerting me to how low-quality of a person I am. You know, because being good to people and saving lives even with the horrors of Marilyn Manson (who I love) and Harry Potter out there...I must be low-qualtity for speaking out about free-speech.

People force censorship on us because they think we lack the capacity to decide for ourselves what is right and wrong and they think that what they think of as morally right and wrong should be made as a rule for everyone wether we like it or not.

I find it insults our intelligence and undermines our freedom of choice.....every time a harmless nipple is blurred, every word that is bleeped, every idea that is held back is our freedom of choice being taken away.

It sickens me that in this day and age that children are exposed to brutal violence yet the second that a nude person is shown is when all hell breaks loose.

Brains being blown out, people being beat, shot, stabbed....those depictions of the human body are ok.....but as soon as the clothes come off....well that's just not acceptable now is it?

And we all know that the parents television council are probably all bible-thumping christians who have the nerve to think that they have the right to force their morals up us all......makes me sick.

Most feel that the content of certain books will have a negative influence on society and therefore should be banned. This is a very negative thought process and as you have stated, just because a person does not like a book does not mean that everyone else should be stopped from reading them.

My fear is that by allowing them to continue to do such a thing it will lead to a domino effect that once set in motion, nothing will stop it. The point with I am making with this statement is that such actions will lead our society to be just like society in a book called Fahrenheit 451.

Books should never be burned or banned; those who do want such actions are just ignorant people who only want others to be like them.

Sam was not calling you low-quality; I think she made a good point. Yet you took her comments so personally, as if it was a direct attack on you? Why did you do that? Could she have hit a nerve?

Book banning is wrong. That's why it's the responsibility of the parents to guard what their kids watch and listen to. But if they were doing that, why does it seem that many kids are so out of control nowadays?

Why is it that so often that things that are morally wrong are legally acceptable?

I think it is because some are threatened by what is in the book. I think they don't want to understand or to let others have their say and/or beliefs. It is a small mind that does this. We can learn a great deal from each other if only we took the time to learn.

The reason for it is in evidenced on a daily basis in the world.

TV and music censors relaxed the guidelines and now we have a country of people with low and NO values. Filthy language is the daily language.

We have gone from a people of QUALITY to a People of NO quality.

More than 50% of the young people today think filthy, inarticulate language is OK. IT IS NOT. Our young people have slipped down the ladder to low quality garbage, in their dress, behaviors and language, not to count education and basic morals.

This is the reason censors and guidlines are important.

We are born with no mold as to what we will become. If we are of low quality, our children will be low quality. If we are of higher quality, that is what our children will be.

ALWAYS HANG AROUND WITH PEOPLE OF HIGHER QUALITY THAN YOU ARE. IT WILL BRING YOU UP TO BE A BETTER PERSON.

Only you would know your quality. But looking at your interests says a lot.

I don't support book banning. There are some things like porno or child porn that should be banned. Why, because they victimize women and children.

Censoring anything is wrong. It is wrong for people to choose for others than themselves what they can and cannot read, watch, hear, etc.

Personally I don't like the "book banning" but sometimes it maybe the right thing to do.

But you banning the Bible will never happen in this country so why make that threat?

Censorship is always a fear based control tactic.

People want to censor religion because they are afraid.
