In my devotion today it says :
Every instance of this selfishness must weaken the evidences of a man's conversion
and I am 56 and the world as individuals overall seem so so selfish to me, and I also think society causes it by trying to rip them off. But I think we need to heed this verse from 1 John 3:16, what do you think ?

Yes, i think people are more selfish these days. We have 15 second attention spans and we do not like to be slowed down or inconvenienced in any way. We think we are plugged in more with each other than ever with mobile phones and internet, when actually we are so unaware of our suroundings and how rude we really are to the people standing in front of us. It is sad.

As for the bible thing... i will say that the book has some great advise and parables.
I am not a Christian... just a concerned human.

Slavery was made illegal in every country on the planet 60 years ago. Women are getting more rights globally. After a huge struggle, aparthid was finally gotten rid of.

I don't know what you're looking at, but I see a lot of people giving and sacrificing for others.

Absolutely!! Real love produces selfless, sacrificial giving. The greatest is giving oneself for others, by serving others with no thought of receiving anything in return. Jesus also teaches of this in John 15:13.
Although, this is easier said than done, we often live for worldly feelings and put ourselves first. But God is our tower of strength.

I think that the media bombards us with information/things to buy, etc. We have to buy the latest gadgets, cars, homes, clothes, and so on. It will make us popular. It also removes us from our spiritual life and makes us weak and selfish, as you stated. We really need to get back to what really makes us happy and content.
