I love mine but it's hard to not the best highway vehicle, gas mileage sucks and top speed is only about 60.
Jeeps were made to go offroad.

Now where did you get a '97 YJ? They stopped making the YJ in '95. Anyhow, I have an '04 Rubicon and a '95 XJ. Both are driven (not daily, but see a few hundred miles a month) on the road, but in adverse weather the use goes up. They also see a fair amount of off road use. It really depends on what kind of mood I am in when it comes to driving one to work or to the store.

yeah, i've got been given a ninety seven and it incredibly is great. in case you wanna get a jeep you could no longer be sorry, i'd bypass even older if i had the money, get a 70's Cj7 or possibly a Willy's Cj3a. those old jeeps are great, yet you would be poring funds into them surprisingly lots for all time. in case you're on a funds, ninety's although early 2000's. in case you're gonnachronic a jeep, make it a stick, or you're a wimp and as for the recent JK's, i do no longer even evaluate those jeeps. JEEPS HAVE 4 doors. in case you opt for a mini van, then get one, in case you opt for a jeep, get a actual one. JK's are for wimps. The old jeeps are meant to be very spartan. a lot of application, no longer lots on luxury. it incredibly is the way it incredibly is meant to be. that's what's so relaxing approximately them. as quickly as you get a jeep you will understand how "it incredibly is a jeep element" is an extremely actual fact. So yeah, get one, you will like it.

I currently have an 89 Cherokee with 4" lift and a snorkel. I have made countless trips to Chicago and back from Colorado with it. It is definitely not a Cadillac ride, but with the adjustable shocks, it does well. It also does very well on the trails. My wife has a fiberglass tub 77 cj5... rides like a tank, but with a 12: lift and 37's, that is what you should expect. She uses it to go to work all the time and down the canyon - about 30-40 miles, but not for long trips.
I prefer jeeps just because they are easy to work on and you can make your own compromise between trail and street.

I love mine. 98 GC 5.9L. MPG sucks but I drive it daily on and off road, not so much off because affording broken parts gets tough. The other thing is its fully loaded with leather and damn I hate to clean the mud out LOL. its a joy though, I wouldnt trade it for the world. I also have a 83 Jeep/Eagle wagon thats 4 wheel drive. Looking to find an older cherokee to swap the sub frames and drive train and lift it about 8 inches. then comes the zebra stripes and oh my let the fun begin.......... ;)

most of the people I know with 4wd utes and jeeps big enough to look marginally useful, have them for one of two reasons...
1: they go off road (like the serious jeep a friend of mine uses to get into the flinders ranges and study rocks).
2: they've lived in the country long enough to know that trying to dodge a headlight stunned roo is the biggest cause of cars rolling in australia, so generally if you want to survive and theres not enough time you have to be high and brick****house enough to hit it so you don't crash or get yourself stranded.
either way a polished up jeep in a city makes anyone think you've got your ... issues.
so jeeps and 4wd utes are perfect if you need them, but if you're hand's on it get a sports car, it's made out of cheap junk and it'll wrap you round a pole and leave the pole standing.
