Well, you say abolish capitol punishment. But as most people
that think that way feel, they don't have a problem keeping a person locked up for all the rest of their life.
I don't see how that isn't the same thing. Either way we take away the person's life, don't we? But while in prison for all the rest of their life they do do excellent and free health care, so that they can live as long as possible behind bars.
Let the punishment fit the crime, I think, but have every means available to be sure the person is guilty. And those rights are in place now.
The United States has now the highest percentage of people in prison in the world, 1 out of every 124 people are in prison.
I don't think my Christianity prohibits me from being for the death penalty, still, though it depends on the crime. And it is funny how people are against the death penalty until the crime is so bad or close to them. Many people that were against the death penalty suddenly wanted it for the "DC snipers."

the main problem with your argument is you live in a secular country, so laws should be drawn up and applied 'blind' to religion, colour or creed.
So to bring religion into a legal debate, is not only backward but also undemocratic.
The countries that do have religion at the heart of their government, like Afghanistan, Iran etc, are the so called terrorists of the free world.
Please I know you mean well, but you are misguided.
Also, capital punishment have been abolished in Europe, for a long time, but this decision was reached, on humanitarian rather than religious grounds

What does the Bible teach about capital punishment?
OT before the giving of special laws to the Jews.
Genesis 9:5 And for your lifeblood I will require a reckoning: from every beast I will require it and from man. From his fellow man I will require a reckoning for the life of man. 6 "Whoever sheds the blood of man, by man shall his blood be shed, for God made man in his own image.
NT after Jesus came and the Holy Spirit was given to believers.
Romans 13:1 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. 3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer.

Yes, I know. We ought to release all the child molesters, kidnappers, serial killers, mother rapers, father rapers...after we keep them, house them, feed them, and let them make $$$ off their best-selling novels, so they can go back into society, where they can do your kids next.
But we certainly ought to murder several million babies a day, because God forbid that their irresponsible parents ought to be saddled with the responsibility of supporting the brats...after all, they just wanted a bit of fun, not a family.
Yep, makes perfect sense to me!!

American Christians can set a good example! If they condemn the death sentence, accept homosexuality, other religions and generally become quite a bit less dogmatic. And stop using their religion as an excuse for their own prejudices!

You misunderstand. Capital punishment is Biblical, and Christians base their belief on the Bible. Paul wrote that the government was an extension of God's power. In essence, God's power is in His two hands (picture a two-handed God for a moment). In one hand is the power he exerts through the Church. It announces to the world that it is fallen in sin and is in need of saving. Furthermore, it announces God's abolition of sin through the atoning death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus. Humans may receive the benefits of this grace merely by believing that it is for them. This is God's Kingdom of Grace. In the other hand of God is the power He exerts through government. Paul says in Romans 13 that governing authorities are God's servants who exert His power over evildoers on earth. Government does God's will in that it prevents chaos and disorder and punishes those who break the laws of society. Furthermore, Paul says the government does not "wield the sword in vain." This means two things. Government may wage just wars to protect its citizenry, and government may execute vicious lawbreakers. In the old days, humans operated by the blood feud which allowed family members to wreak vengeance on another who had had harmed their family. If your family killed one of mine, my family could get one of yours for instance. However, humans being what they are, the blood feud would run wild with both sides continually upping the ante. Family, clan, and tribal wars resulted. Enter the government. It accomplishes two things by executing murderers. The first is that it shows how seriously it takes murder ; how much it values life. The second is that it satisfies the sense of justice required by those injured by the assailant, namely the murdered victim and his family. The blood feud run amok is done away with by justice. Finally, executions are performed mercifully. Murderer John Doe brutally cut down an innocent victim. He on the other hand will be put to death painlessly. I would submit that any society not willing to execute such criminals shows disdain for both the sanctity of life of the vengeance required to atone for the victim's life.
