I just had to take my cat to the vet for that same thing....is she able to eat? Every time my cat went to eat she would make that hacking sound like something was stuck and she couldn't swallow (though she was still breathing) still freaked me out.. I took her to the vet and he looked in her mouth and she had ulcers on the back of her throat and tongue. He gave her antibiotic and pain meds, he thinks it might have something to do with an upper respiratory infection. I have to keep her on the antibiotics and canned food only (because it is soft and easier to swallow) for 10days then she goes back to see vet. That was Thursday and by Friday she was no longer making that noise, so hopefully the vet was right. So yeah, you need to take her to the vet ASAP, if she is not able to eat her major organs will start to shut down. My cat is almost 5 years old. Good luck.

You don't know that a furball is the problem. Take the cat to the vet if you're worried.

Take her to the vet ASAP, the vet has hairball medicine that she could use.

there is a cat food made especially for furballs...if you feed her that and she continues to gag, there could be something seriously wrong...so don't wait to get her checked out...it's better to be safe than sorry...you could wait too long and that would be horrible...
