For a newborn, I would go for the Mamas and Papas Pliko range. Had one for my little one from about 3 months to go on holiday as I had a big Pram for her to use when we walked out alot. They are really sturdy and after using mine for 3 years, I sold it and it still looked like new. They now also do a model which can face you if you wish, didn't do this when mine was little. When she got older (about 2) I had a Maclaren Vogue for when I literally wanted to zoom around town. It was smaller than the M & P but did the job. Just bear in mind that newborns need more back support so I would pay a little more and get soemthing which lies right back and is slightly padded for comfort. The Pliko ticks all the boxes-not cheap but in my opinion, really good value for money. Mine had a hood, raincover, footmuff, soft basket for shopping underneath and cost approx £350, prices are lower now though as they were fairly new when I bought. Check out offers at local baby shops-we have a great one near us in Nottinghamshire that has fab sales when new fabrics are due in stock, they sell off the old fabrics but if you go for a classic navy then they never really "date" anyway. Good luck, hope I have helped. All the best for your upcoming birth and baby!

I would reccomend the mamas and papas pliko pramette. I am expecting my 4th baby and will use my pramette again, I bought it for my last child and only wish it had been around when I had my first.
The pliko faces you for the first few months and then can face forward as well, easy zip on and off raincover, lovely soft passing but still much more compact than a traditional carrycot, one hand fold and unfold. comes with cosytoes etc, can be used with car seat or carrycot, you just click them on if you choose to buy them.
Good sized shopping basket as well. Ive had a lot of prams and buggys over the years and this is the only one I can find no faults with! It is still going strong and in as new condition for my new baby so value for money if you have another in the future (just choose a unisex fabric)

maclaren have a wide range of strollers most of which are of great quality. They are practical, lightweight and easy to fold down. Especially handy for people who will be using public transport.
Mamas and papas also sell good strollers suitable from bith

I don't know about that particular McClaren, but I had a buggy given to me by my sister, it was one of those really light ones you use from 6 months, easily collapsible with one hand. It served her two children, my daughter and now my cousin's two kids, so it has gone on for years, thought I would let you know as it was such good value for money, really lightweight and easy to use.
You obviously need one from birth, it needs to be lightweight and easily foldable if you use public transport. One with an adjustable seat which can lay flat for when baby is sleeping would be essential, you also need some kind of storage for shopping and changing bags, and a handle which is comfortable as pushing one all day which isn't can give you blisters on your hands. It needs to have a shade and a raincover as well. Get your husband to drive you to one of those big superstore places like a big Mothercare or Babies R Us or even Toys are us I think, and try a few out, make sure you have a heavy bag with you so you can test it with some weight in it, some of them feel fine until they have to bear a load. Make sure you are comfortable with the handles and that it is the right height for you so you don't stoop, pushing one around all day that is the wrong height or doesn't have adjustable handle height can really do your back in. Decide which type of wheels you want and try pushing it around to see how easy it is to turn.
By all means buy it from a catalogue if you want, but make sure you have tried that exact model out, I went through three different strollers because they looked good in the catalogue but were impractical when I got them home. Maclaren are brilliant, well designed, durable, easy to handle, easy to collapse, but Graco are also really good and well thought out, good value, well made and easy to handle. Honestly, go have a look at a few before you buy, also if you see a mum out and about pushing one you like, don't be afraid to stop and ask her where she got it, most mum's are only too pleased to share their tips. I hope someone answers who has tried the one you like, but you can't really go wrong with a Maclaren, even if it ticks someone else's boxes, it may not be right for you, so please do try them out first. Good luck, and God bless you, your partner and your beautiful baby.

Well I have had 4 prams for 2 kids so I am a pretty good authority on this subject!
Things to look out for are:
*Large Hood that curves down not straight out or its useless for shading
*Large Basket underneath that you can get to when seat is laid flat when bubs is sleeping/newborn
*2 cup trays (one for mum one for baby) is handy although just a parent tray or baby tray is good as you can give them snacks and have somewhere to hold drink bottle and your coffee! Its hard to steer and hold a drink when pram is full
* Easily manourverable wheels and lightweight as it gets heavy with all the shopping and baby weight
* Removeable front bar (makes it easier to get kid out when older)
* Rubber NOT plastic wheels. You have to pump them up every so often but they last longer and rolls smoother. I just took it to the service station when I filled up the car every 6-8mths or so
* Model that has optional toddler seat for later on
* A strap/material piece that goes between their legs from front bar down to seat edge so that as a newborn they don't keep sliding out (happens even with harness on)
* 'clips' on end of seat bottom (foot end) that adjust up and down to accomodate smaller newborn or bigger toddler.
If you can find a pram that has most of these features then buy it! Expensive prams usually equal useless.
If you live in Australia then you absolutely HAVE to go to Toys'r'us. They have the most amazing baby goods specials.
My best friend and I bought the same stroller there. Normally $150 we paid $45! and she is having another one and wanted a new 3wheeler with toddler seat. Got one for $79.50 down from $400!!! No kidding it had toddler seat, parent tray, removeable bassinette for newborn and heaps of great extras it was just the runout model and last one.
I could go on for ages about their specials so just go and check it out!!

I actually have no opinion on what type of stroller you should purchase but would suggest purchasing one from a second hand store . . .
