dont u hate it when u go for a long trip and u forgets to pack a certain item?
you go down the airport, ride the plane for an hour or so, then finally remember...

help me prevent this mistake by giving me some items that i might forget..10 points to the most helpful (and yes i mean helpful, so just because you list everything in your house doesnt mean its going to be the most helpful answer) of course having a long checklist isnt all that painful ^-^

Money and papers, (like passport and driving license, medical records if you have a serious illness, prescription for glasses and needed medicines) and bank cards, with these you can get all else you need. They should be on your body in a save place so you can find them at all times and can not leave them by accident. Money belts are great for this.
A grab bag, can be a belt with a bag on it if you tend to loose things, with your medicines and (sun) glasses.

Next I make a personal checklist, what do I do during the trip, when I arrive and when I wake up in the morning.
Like,
Bus card, train tickets.
Plain ticket, passport, travel insurance papers, book.
Extra sweater, raincoat, camera.

Vouchers, town map, guidebook.
What do I need for sleeping (sleeping bag, sheets, pyamas, pillow, and so on.)
Bathroom, (toiletbag, is all in it?)

Next what I need in the morning:
Clothes (for each kind of weather I use a different list but I start from the skin out, top to toes, including hairties when I have long hair and footwear.)
What do I need for the day into town, (guidebook, do I have special information for this town,) or for the meeting I go to (starting with entry papers and going to details like pins to secure the things I need to show to a wall.)
Who am I going to meet and do I need to bring something for them, hand them something or bring gifts.

If I do different things in a journey I make lists for each thing, otherwise one day list will do for the trip.
You see that I list things in different parts, but as I use these day parts I normally list them in the order I need them, and only once.

If you move house you pack all you have, (unless you move out of your parents place or at a divorce, and then you pack all you can take and buy all needed things.)
Pack all things you need for the trip in a bag which you take with you at all times.
All things for the first few days in a box or bag you keep with you, like in the drivers compartment of your car.
All tools needed for the house at the place you can reach first.
And all the rest in boxes marked with which room they go to, what is in them in short like 'books' followed with a list of items if there is more than one box with the same term.

Well, first of all, are you permanently moving or just travelling to a place for a very long time???

If its the first, then you should pack everything, right?

If its the second, then I would imagine everything thats on my body (clothes wise) and grab about 5 - 7 of each, like socks, undies, shirts etc. Then try to envision what you'll be doing there is it for work or pleasure? Also don't forget your toilet bag.

Don't pack liquids or gels in your carryon, it saves the hassle of the airport security.

Last, whatever you forget at home, you can always buy where you're at, unless its some deserted island.

good luck!

since you are permanently moving, why not bring everything you own?
