It seems as though many questions posed are by those who do not believe, and answers recieved and chosen as best are from those of a like mind. If there is to be no real interest in someone elses opinion unless it agrees with preconcived opinions of the asker. So, should there be a 'pat yourself on the back becouse some one thinks like you do' section? Or should we use this space to truly try and find answers to questions that we have not yet formed an opinion upon?

Menon R, I thiink you have something here. Perhaps it's an extension format that is needed vs an actual sub section.- Thanks. Let's see what else shows up.

BIGBANG, I see your view, but squabbling is not a term I embrace. Open discussion with an open mind to explore real questions is more to my liking. What a person chooses to believe or disbelieve is up to them and can rarely be altered. Serious questions and the open minded pursuit of knowledge is what the issue is.

It would be nice if such a division could be made, or if those who asked religious questions did so for the sake of learning, instead of bashing.

That many different serious opinions are shared is only positive, and should be viewed as such perhaps even if they differ seriously in viewpoint -- that is, if they are meant for educational purposes instead of bashing people who believe in God.

However, I do not see how such a system may be implemented. Many positive religious comments get a thumbs down just because these express belief in God.

Those that do so on a religious forum should ask themselves why they are participating in a religious discussion at all if they are so dead set against anything related to God and the study of worship in its many forms and religions.

May haps it is because they know that their own philosophy and world-outlook leaves them empty, unfulfilled. It sure is a paradox why some who abhor the concept of God and intelligent creation would stalk about thumb-downing religious answers on a religion & spirituality section hiding behind the mask of anonymity that thumb button provides.

No matter how YA sections topics, people will always put their comments in areas where they enjoy commenting.
It does seem like Best Answers are chosen by those of "like mind" but I did get one from a person who felt that I answered the question, although he didn't agree with my opinion.
There's certainly something for everybody here, that's for sure.

I definitely agree that the best answer is usually given to those who think the same way as the person asking the question. But i dont think the split should be along Faith non-faith lines. It should be along the lines of "Inquiry", "Poll" and "Forum".

Inquiry for genuine questions, where people ask for information, not opinions. Poll for opinions. And forum for simply bashing out ideas and thoughts. And yeah, obviously we should not allow the giving out best answer to the Poll and Forum sections.

Would that really change things? And do you consider 'faith' only to be in the christian deity or all faiths? Would you consider muslims, hindus, jews, pagans, deists as 'non faith' along with atheists and agnostics?

That won't stop the people who want to cross into the other sections from doing so, so why bother. After all, having a separate category for gay, bisexual, transgendered people does not stop some christians from going in there and harassing the people in that category.

No as an atheist I want to interact with persons of belief and attempt to have them question their own beliefs...this may have no effect on some of them but it may weaken or strengthen other peoples beliefs...I definitely don't think you believers of different faiths should be just left to squabble amongst yourselves in an apartheid sort of situation separated from atheists...it's not healthy for you or anybody else.

Seen several questions like this in the past.

Different ideas of how to split it but the same idea.

I stand by my suggestion to devide it between X-ian & Open. This would permit thoe who just want to remain in their confort zone to stay in the X-ian Mythos. But those who do want frank & open exchange of ideas could particpate in the "Open" one. Would make it easier to sort the deliberate Trolls from the nieve kids.

If you want to have opinions that match your own, start a blog or a forum.
This is open to all.
Even if it was sub-sectioned, I'd still go to whichever section I wanted and give answers to whichever questions I wanted.

People don't readily change their minds, but seeds are planted and changes occur over time, I think. I enjoy the dialogue between faith and non-faith, so feel that it should be kept the way it is!

That will happen whether or not YA makes subsections. It's not like points or someone else agreeing with your opinion are really good for anything in the real world, anyway.

5 cents, please!

Sorry you feel that your space is being invaded, but do take note of how many questions from theists are aimed at atheists, and vice versa.
