Has anyone ever noticed that if you fight with a christian about each tohers beliefs the christian can only slag of atheism and cant prove that anything the bible says is true yet atheists can prove that it talks rubbish. I believe the bible was written by someone desperate to be succesful and get rich and it worked apparently.

Some people feel threatened with something different.
Some people will - in theory - accept another faith, but are threatened to see Atheists with satisfying, for filling lives.

I guess for the same reasons they hate religions other than their own. Some consider it a sin, some don't understand and some lack respect for others. To some religious practices, conversion is a big part. Being raised catholic(no longer practicing) we were told that people who didn't practice like us lost there way or were sinning because their's was the only true religion. I have a friend who is Muslim and for the longest time he tried to convert me because his was the only way. I agree with you that there are so many that try to shove their beliefs down the throats of others and that that isn;t right, but to them it is all part of their practice. One thing that is forgotten is "love thy neighbor...." where is the respect for others? Try not to be hostile because that will weaken your spirit. What ever it is that you hold true in your heart keep it there, but try to understand others and try to over look them when they get to be too much. Peace and Love.

Because the truth hurts.
Other than open-minded people, there's not a lot of receptive audiences for atheists or other freethinkers.
People's identities and beliefs are wrapped up in their religion. A belief in God, apparently, is not enough . . . they also need a religion to tell them what is "right" to think and believe. Once they've been told what to believe, they're set. They don't need to know anything else.
There's a true story which points out that man can't turn Christian without being taught to . . .
An Inuit hunter asked the local missionary priest: "If I did not know about God and sin, would I go to hell?" "No," said the priest, "not if you did not know." "Then why," asked the Inuit earnestly, "did you tell me?"
But once he's been taught to, it's extremely hard for other points of view to penetrate.
Christianity is powerful. Its self-referential rationale and human appeal were worked out for at least a thousand years before Jesus was born . . . in the form of MANY prior religions that share many of the hallmarks of Christianity: God vs Satan, a savior hero, a virgin birth, miracles like turning water into wine and raising the dead, a final battle between good and evil, death and resurrection 3 days later, birth on December 25th and on and on. With over a thousand years of polishing, this religious model was complete when Jesus adopted it.
Then, over 3 centuries after Jesus, Emperor Constantine made Christianity the state religion of the Roman Empire. In one swell swoop, Christianity was given a boost and a legitimacy that propelled it, eventually, into the world's leading religion.
Ever since, parents have been indoctrinating their children into Christianity, filling their defenseless minds with concepts they are too young to understand; helping to ensure they never truly understand it. Christianity is ingrained into most of the world's societies and this makes life difficult for the freethinkers.

I never understood why some people feel threatened when you don't share the same beliefs. Growing up in the middle of the Bible Belt, I've seen it firsthand.
I can't really answer your question because I can't speak for those people. My parents taught me to treat everyone the same. I mean, religion is personal (IMO), If it's your choice to not have a religion, knock yourself out.
I see it like this. I wouldn't want an atheist trying to convert me, so why should I do the same?

I know not all Christians do, but yes some are like that. Soem are taught that they're better than the non-believers, which is just plain wrong. A true Christian doesn't hate, or try to convert someone and force their beliefs onto them.
Your friend should be a better friend and let you be as you are.

This is simple.
They have been brainwashed and forced to believe in such foolish, unrealistic stuff.
They use the bible as proof because that's the closest thing as proof that they can find. When I ask my family, how the bible is actual proof and not all rubbish, they say, because it's the word of god. That's all that they say. That's their proof!
That shows how they've been brainwashed. They all sound the same when you ask them the same question, most of the time.
Just let them believe that nonsense. Eventually, they will understand that none of it is true.

People are ignorant and close minded. I've had the same problem except I'm Hindu and a random Christian women patronized my religion and belittled me. People of every religion should respect and accept people for their religions or the fact that they don't believe. I do believe religion has instilled fear in people and this is why they don't see past what right in front of them.

i feel really bad for u. im a JW and people treat me like crap too. i dont think athiests r horrible people, i just think its sad that people dont believe that someone was loving enough to create an earth for us, i dont want to instantly convert someone, i just want them to get a better understanding about god and how he is a loving creator, not a heartless evil person. and you can actually make a point from the bible, its not a bunch of rubbish as you would call it. i dont want to convert you, i just think its sad u dont believe in god. but if u dont belive in god or evolution, what do u believe?

Flatten her with your atheist logic.
Edit: Yes, Christians don't even know why they're Christian. They have been brought up to believe and so they do, and never think to question what they've been told. As for the New Testament, it was written by Christian communities a couple of centuries AFTER Jesus died.

With such a huge, sensitive and defensive ego - anything anyone says of a religious nature is going to feel like a stab in the heart. Lighten up, smile at what you feel is the opposition, be friendly, and be thankful it's not worse.

They feel that their religion is better and i dont think that girl is a true friend if she is only trying to convert you. I also experience similar problems like you. Some people see atheists as 'new recruits' for their religion. So they try whatever they can to convert you.
Right now i can hear the megaphone of a religious function.
