When I say "it was going on" back when John wrote the epistle, I'm talking about similar things were being taught about Jesus backl then which was one reason for John writing that letter.

Mormons believe Jesus was the brother of the devil and that would imply he was an angel. JW's believe jesus was michael the archangel. Both teaching contradict Heb. 1:5. Muslims believe Jesus was a prophet. Shame on them.

Spirit of antichrist.

Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 1 John 4:1-3

For many deceivers have gone out into the world who do not confess Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. This is a deceiver and an antichrist. 2 John 7

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9

For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. 1 John 5:7

Yes, we do. I remember in Revelation chapter 7 it talks about the great crowd having palm branches in their hands. What this shows is that the great crowd honor Jesus as the King of God's kingdom. Just as when Jesus rode into Jerusalem they acknowledged Jesus as king, we as Witnesses do the same; Matthew 21:1-11. We also honor Jesus when we continue in the work he started, preaching the good news of God's kingdom; Luke 4:43 Really it's good to honor righteous people.

Perhaps you are referring to the apostle John’s references to antichrists; specifically 1 John 1:18 where he says that even now there are many. Antichrist means against or instead of Christ. At 2 John 7, John says that many deceivers have gone into the world; not confessing Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh. You should know that Jehovah's Witnesses most assuredly believe that Christ came in the flesh. We teach about it constantly.

If I understand correctly, Islam does not accept the teaching that Jesus was the son of God or that Jesus is God Almighty but they do hold that he was a great prophet. As Ronnie H mentioned, Mormons believe Jesus is God’s son and a separate and distinct person from the Father.

Jehovah’s Witnesses believe also that Jesus was/is the son of God and, like Mormons, that he is a separate and distinct person from our heavenly father.

Since your additional details mention that “it” was being taught in the first century, and since you seem to be referencing the fact that these groups do not hold that Jesus Christ is God Almighty himself – the same God Almighty spoken of in the Hebrew Scriptures (the Old Testament), perhaps you are suggesting that these groups deny the Trinity as many embrace it. Since Ronnie explained that Mormons believe Jesus is separate and distinct, they do not believe he is God Almighty either. (Ronnie, forgive please if I have misconstrued). It should be noted that different people have different concepts of the Trinity. So it should be defined before it is discussed.

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that Jesus is the Son of the true God, that he is a separate and distinct person and that he is not God Almighty. They believe that while on earth he was a human being of flesh, bone and blood – no more and no less. Jehovah's Witnesses do not embrace the Trinity doctrine as it is taught. This, however, does not make them antichrists.

If you are saying that in his letter John was dealing with those who rejected Jesus as God Almighty, it should be remembered that the first Christians were Jews. They would naturally reject any doctrine which taught that their heavenly father died. They knew the scriptures taught that it was impossible for this to happen.

All these fail the test of 1 John and are of a different spirit then God. None of these people will go to heaven unless they believe and repent.
Jesus said, The [appointed period of] time is fulfilled (completed), and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent (have a change of mind which issues in regret for past sins and in change of conduct for the better) and believe (trust in, rely on, and adhere to) the good news (the Gospel). Mark 1:15

If you are not following Jesus you are following a thief. Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” (John 10:10) The devil is this thief that comes up with false teachers and religions. False teachers and religions only come to steal, kill, and destroy. So this makes the devil a liar. We have already learned that Jesus is the truth. Do you want to follow a liar or the way, the truth, and the life?

The bible says to examine ourselves to see if we are in the faith
Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified. 2 Corinthians 13:5
1 John is a test to see if we are really a true Christian. john said, These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life.1 John 5:13

here is a test based mostly on first John to see if you are in the faith

They don't have anything in common. Each religion has its own belief or teachings. Islam do not believe in Jesus Christ. The Mormons do not believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God but only a disciple. Jehovah's Witnesses BELIEVE Jesus Christ is the Son of God but not equal to the Father. So how can you say that all three religion have something in common with regards to Jesus Christ?

Islam sees Jesus as a prophet. Mormons see Jesus as the son of God as do Jehovahs Witnesses. They have little in common regarding how they see Jesus.

Muslims (and Mormons for that matter) are to be commended for recognizing the monotheistic nature of the Almighty.

However, followers of Islam need to recognize, as Jehovah's Witnesses and other Christians do, that Jesus Christ was more than just another prophet. Jehovah's Witnesses teach that no salvation occurs without Christ, that accepting Christ's sacrifice is a requirement for true worship, that every prayer must acknowledge Christ, that Christ is the King of God's Kingdom, that Christ is the head of the Christian congregation, that Christ is immortal and above every creature, even that Christ was the 'master worker' in creating the universe!

Another interesting facet of true Christianity is that Jesus Christ commanded his followers to go from house to house to spread his teachings. Recognizing whether a supposed "Christian" is actually doing that can help clarify whether he is a true Christian.

(Matthew 28:19,20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded

Is this some sort of joke? A Mormon, an Islam, and a Jehovah's Witness all go into a bar together...(A Mormon wouldn't enter a bar though, heh. (: )

The Bible only talks about reiligions that the disciples knew about at the time. The LDS and Jehovah's Witness churches weren't (and couldn't) be around by then. Idon't know much about Islam.

Edit: @ annabelle p: The Mormons (I am one) believe that Jesus is the son of God. We are all children of God too. Watch what you say when you don't know what you're saying please.
