I would like for Christians to steal Mardi Gras so it could become a national holiday. Christians could say it was the day Jesus turned water into wine or to comemorate some other party related miracle. Should I write to the Pope to approve this?

I think its bad enough that people get time off from work and school for Christmas and Easter but not any other holidays for other religions. Why press Mardi Gras too?

I dont think it would be a nice idea...a religious group cant just "steal" a holiday

Guess what? Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) already is a Christian day! It's the day before Lent begins, six weeks before Easter. The idea of Fat Tuesday was originally to feast in order to prepare for fasting during Lent. What you want is for the government to steal it and turn it into another Xmas.

Disclaimer: i'm a style of "others", no longer an atheist. The Christians did no longer scouse borrow Christmas from us. the rest persons rejoice issues like xmas, Saturnalia, Winternight, etc. Christmas is rather new and those persons of the older faiths have never celebrated it or cared if others do. they only shouldn't pretend there is something remotely Christian approximately what they do on Christmas because of the fact different than the infant Jesus they extra in there, this is all from plenty older Pagan and Heathen traditions. nonetheless, Christmas is unquestionably all theirs. Why no longer basically rejoice xmas with us and allow the Christers, who're rather in basic terms Paganized wayward Jews besides, have Christmas? they had experience like they "gained", you would be enjoying the Heathens and the Pagans and shall we finally provide up listening to how they 'stole' Christmas. it may be win-win-win! Edit: confident, I examine the whole Q besides, too. seems to be an anomaly. could desire to I provide up doing that?

Relax. The Christians have a new one coming up. After November, 2008, the Jesus freaks are gonna make George Bush's birthday a religious holiday.

To answer your question, yes, they could. And yes, you should write to the Pope - I'd love for you to share his response.
Your comment on Lupercalia - I agree that Mardi Gras is based on it, but getting knocked unconscious drunk and having wet Tee shirt contests is not a Christian teaching.

The Christians should steal Yom Kippur from the Hebrews and sell it to the Zoroastrians.
