I don't mean to sound cold or anything, but a shrink and some drugs is not the answer to your problems people. Everyone gets depressed, it doesn't mean you have depression. If you're not proud of yourself for doing drugs, then stop doing drugs, if you're feeling like a sl*t for sleeping with too many guys/girls then stop, and if you think someone is attractive go for them. Girl's under the age of 20 SHOULD NOT BE DIETING!!! Your body is still growing and you cutting off things that help it build muscle, and body fat that will be able to tone into muscle is killing you and hurting you. Looks are not the most important thing because if you're dead nobody cares what you look like.

Maybe I should clearify. Yes I do have issues, I have been through quite abit but I was also raised to try and cope with it like an adult rather than to seek counseling first. To seek the advice of those who know you best and if you can not THEN seek help outside. I know people who are bi polar. I know people who are worse because of their medication. Did you know that herbal remedies and excersise have been known to be a better way of helping the situation? research. All I'm saying is that it shoudln't be the first thing that is given as advice anytime someone has aproblem it's always "seeks help" "get a councelor" "go on medication" It was hard but I learned to control things on my own with some help of people who knew what they were talking about.

Okay, While I agree with the fact that medication is not always necessary it really is in some cases. And while people on here might suggest it to someone who is seeking help it is for a doctor to decide whether or not there is a chemical imbalance that needs to be corrected.
Counseling has more than one purpose. Its not just for if someone has a drug problem or is sleeping around or if they are dieting or not. First of all if someone is doing drugs there has to be a reason that they are doing them other than to rebel. The same goes for sleeping around. And for dieting society is to blame. If there wasnt so much pressure to be thin then these girls wouldnt be dieting. A person cannot stop these things the same way you turn off a light switch-- its just not that easy. For many people these things are coping mechanisms in order to deal with issues that they may have. Not everyone handles situations the same or knows how to cope in a way that is not self destructive. So in that case counseling is beneficial as long as the person wants to change the behavior, because the counselor is there to provide a listening ear and teach how to cope in healthy way versus an unhealthy way. Many times people have things happen to them and it makes them behave in ways that a person who has not had things happen to them wouldnt. For instance a child who was raped and molested would be prone to an eating disorder or turning to drugs later or even being promiscuous. Put yourself in a that place and try think of what you would do. What would you do if you were abused as a child and had no one to turn to? How would you cope? Initially you might block it from your memory but it will come back... and then what do you do? You dont have the support of anyone and the pain is so unbearable... how would you cope. A lot of times those things are ways people choose to cope if they werent taught how cope in a healthy way. So they have to learn.
So if medication and therapy are not the answer tell me what the solution is because I want to know so that I can fix my problems the right way.

I agree with your words to a certain extent - But there seems to be silly people on yahoo posting shocking things for a gag without considering someone who is very young impressionable and in trouble that might get an idea they didn't have before. Like the ones who say run away and don't talk to your parents anymore. It's a form of peer pressure & bravadoism and really irresponsible. Kids should be encouraged to reach out for help from a responsible adult and discouraged from keeping secrets from parents and try to deal with life instead of getting into negative mindset. Some kids just automatically dismiss parents.

Hey man, I would sey get with the times. Insurance companies pay for counseling, doctors, prescriptions because they work and they often work better. Yes there are your "herbal remedies" and household tips to feeling better that your grandmother taught you, but there is a reason things change...because other things work better and more efficiently. The fact you say, if you don't like doing drugs, then stop; if you think you sleep with too many, then stop. Often these people with these problems, the answer is far beyond that and if you weren't so ignorant, I wouldn't be responding to you. I am amused how you think you know what your talking about though. Thanks

hhhmmm...everbody should see right through that, funny how they don't. You're one of those people with serious issues or else you wouldn't have even went on a rant about counseling. Did your therapist upset you?? Got some anger issues there??? So what is the reason you are in the mental health section, I wonder???
