Parties!
While I don't live where we pay for things with pence, I do live where people regularly pay a dollar or so for a bag of ice. Trust me when I say it's the easiest thing to do if you are having a party and you need ice. Obviously, you can make ice at home if your freezer has an ice maker, but the problem, if the gathering is going to be large, is where do you store all of it? It's much easier to simply buy a couple of bags and empty them into the ice bucket as needed while the party is in full swing.

First off a question for you.
What is 80p? Is that pence? how much is that worth in U.S. Dollars?
Now for your answer.
Not everyone has a large freezer and can not waste the space to make ice cubes.
Not everyone has 10 to 20 ice cube trays or an automatic ice maker.
Sometimes you have unexpected guests and need more ice.
If you go places that are far away and want to bring food that needs to be kept cold, you will need extra ice.
After an operation you need extra ice. If you sprang a body part you need extra ice.
If you have kids that want icees, you need extra ice.
Parties, family get together;s.
The list is endless.

I would asume you need lots of cubes and only have a small domestic freezer. Why this vendetta against ice cubes? Many things for sale in supermarkets are a sheer waste of money, have a go at
pizzas - cheese on toast with a fancy name,
or Alligator pears sold rock hard and sure to rot before they ripen, My two top favs for stupid buys...............

Saves the bother of making your own.. Or perhaps a do outdoors or in a place without a freezer .. Buy the cubes shortly before required and store in a cool bag .

Ice cubes in bulk come in handy for outside events to keep items cool in a cooler. It's kind of hard to make that many ice cubes in your own freezer.

its easy then making them yourself. Most if the time when you have a party you're freezer is full of food the week before so you dont have room to make them anyway. I buy them the morning of my party then dump in a big plastic bucket with all the bottles and cans.

So I can use the space in my $500 freezer for something other than storing ice.
