Not all brides destroy their dress. This is something new that is coming about from photographers who want to create art. Brides go willingly, knowing they will ruin the dress. Most say they do it because it shows they won't need the dress again. If it isn't ruined past repair, they usually get it fixed and donate it later. A lot of brides also choose to wear 2 dresses - one for the ceremony and one for the reception. One dress they will donate and the other they will ruin.

I've never heard of this new fad. While it is sad to see the dress worn for one day and then almost ruined - in 80% of the "trash the dress" pictures a good drycleaning would bring it back to new. It's the bride's dress and the bride's day so who cares what she does with the dress? It's not like she's going to wear it again. A friend of my mum's preserved her wedding gown and then when her first child was born she cut up the gown and made a beautiful Christening gown out of it. Depending on what a bride chooses to do with her dress will either be her regret or joy.

The gown isn't supposed to symbolize the marriage. I assume you're talking about the website where women "trash" their wedding gowns. To be honest, most of the time the gowns aren't totally ruined, they simply have to be cleaned b/c they got wet or muddy...the same thing that happens to a bride who has an outdoor wedding and it rains. And the idea behind it is that most women will have the classic wedding poses in their albums, but if you spent that much money on a beautiful gown, why not get extravagant and beautiful pictures taken in it as well? And again, most of the time the dresses are fine...and even if they weren't...are they going to wear them again or leave them sitting in a box? Probably the box.

I have never ever heard of a bride that wanted to destroy her wedding dress. In fact just the opposite, most brides get their dress cleaned and preserved after the wedding and some women even save them in hopes that their future daughter will one day want to wear it.

It's called "Trash the Dress", a trendy new thing in photography. Really, most brides don't actually ruin the dress, (although some do) but they wear it in the ocean or at the park, or wrestling in the mud. or horseback riding, whatever she thinks of that sounds like fun. They are fun to shoot, and gives her a chance to wear the thing one more time without worrying about getting a spot on it.
If it's not for you, then don't worry about it. Trash the dress is not meant as a disrespectful comment on the state of matrimony, but rather as something lighthearted and fun.

Only time a dress might be destroyed is either accidental or intentional due to a divorce or something of the nature.
Are you implying that this is done during the course of a happy marriage and it possibly symbolizes something?
Point = there is none.

People get the complete wrong idea with it.
They arent destroying their dresses for no reason. There is a website that showcases beautiful photographs that were taken that in the process ruined the dresses.
For example... alot of brides will take photos with their groom at the beach in the sand...
So.. its not specifically to destroy the dress.... its to get beauitful photographs that may destroy the dress in the process.

Check out this website!

It sort of symbolizes that you will never need it again (the dress), most people are doing it for the artistic value of the pictures!

My mother paid for my dress as her wedding gift to me, her only daughter, don't you think it would be so disrespectful of me to trash my dress, I think it would be so rude and ungrateful, I have no intention of trashing my dress. Accidents happen, I know that, but I would not deliberately do this to my dress.
