The city is Hameln. It's very pretty and plays up its association with the story; e.g. it calls itself the rat-catcher (Pied Piper in the German version) city, there are Pied Piper festivals and plays, and you can get little rats (bread, candy) everywhere! Here, take a look: http://www.hameln.de/

Hamelin - spelt like that - an area in Eastern Germany.

The city is called Hameln. It´s full of framework-houses. You can reach it from Hannover by suburban train
