A person that acts like someone (another user) or something (Fundamentalist, atheists, black, white) in order to ask inane questions to discredit that person or group.
Or someone who just asks idiotic questions to see how fast they can get their account deleted. Go to the cultures and groups section and look for anyone who has KKK in their name and you will see what I mean.

a troll is someone who intentionally posts messages about sensitive topics constructed to cause controversy in an online community such as an online discussion forum or USENET groups in order to bait users into responding. They may also plant images and data on networks that others may find disturbing in order to cause confrontation.
More specifically a troll is an insult or accusation made against a poster. It would be highly unusual for any internet poster to claim the title of troll, rather a community member may try to deflate a post that is controversial or thought provoking by referring to it as a “troll”. In usage troll is more of an insult like “nerd”, "jerk" or “geek”.
To call someone a troll is to say that any dispute over a post is not valid not because the issues raised are not valid, but to claim the intent of the poster invalidates the post. As a speech act the term troll is generally used as an ad hominem argument, attacking the poster rather than the content or issues of the post.

I troll for fish. Just use your trolling motor to very slowly cross the lake while your lure or bait trails behind you -- usually at depth, not on the surface.

In which sense of the word?
There's the fairytale creature that traditionally is depicted as evil and tend to live under bridges and hide.
In a similar sense, this is how the "internet troll" got it's name. They're people who hang out in chat rooms or groups etc and hide away only to reveal themselves to cause trouble and be a general pain in the a$s.

A troll is someone that says something to get a reaction. OR someone that pretends to represent a group, and does a bad job on purpose.

A troll is someone who goes though internet communities (chat rooms, message boards, etc.) and basically tries to anger people by making offensive and stupid comments. It is basically and ego boost gotten by bulling others.
Basically, if you want to not be a troll, just don't be a ****.

Or if you mean online, then I believe it's short for patroller. Like someone who just lurks and annoys. Kinda like those ahll monitors we see on TV. :)
