He will be fine.He may lick himself down there for a few days.Check him everyday to make sure he is not red or sore, but usually neuterings are uneventful and the cats act as if nothing has happened.

Well done for getting your cat castrated. He's dying to go outside and find a female cat to impregnate - don't let him! There are enough homeless cats around already. Castrating him will take away the urge, and also stop his urine stinking!

Castration is a pretty minor thing in cats believe it or not. Unlike with dog castrations, no body cavity is entered so soreness is minimal.

Basically, you can pick the cat up as normal as long as you don't put your hand right under his tail, where his bits used to be! Just pick him up under the armpits and the back legs.

Keep him inside for a good few days after the op until he has healed up enough. He will be groggy for the rest of the day after the anaesthetic, don't be worried if he doesn't want to eat for the rest of that day.

Other than that, the only other thing you need to know is that you're doing the right thing for the cat - and the cat population in general! Your vet will also go through post-op care with you and answer any questions you have.

Both my cat and dog are desexed and for a few days after a little touchy and stuff, but they are really placid and friendly. He will probably be more hostlie toward other cats though- thats just from experience but your cat may be different. But there are no special ways to hold them just don't go chucking him across the room ok?

Ask your vet, he will instruct you on the care of the cat after the operation.
