The previous answerer is correct; he can have it unless he has severe 'anaphylactic' reactions to egg. Speak to your GP about it, if in doubt he/she can refer your child to a specialist immunisation centre (e.g. at a children's hospital). Have a look at the Children's Hospital at Westmead's information page on egg allergy

According to the CDC PinkBook, only those who have had a severe allergic reaction to eggs should not have the flu vaccine because even though there's only a small amount of the egg protein in the vaccine itself, it might be enough to produce another reaction. Those that experience hives, itching, or other "milder" forms of allergic reactions are encouraged to speak with their medical provider before deciding. You doctor will ask what type of reaction your son has had and make the determination if he is a candidate for the vaccine.

If your son has a severe allergy or history of allergic reaction to chicken eggs or egg products ;he shouldn't receive the flu vaccine. Flu vaccine is prepared from the fluids of chick embryos; the ingredient used to grow the virus used in the flu vaccine.

it isn't recommended. HOWEVER I have known people to get 1/2 of the shot and then come back later for the other 1/2. As long as they took benadryl they were fine.

Again, call your doctor and ask. He is the only one to give you the proper advice because he knows your son and his medical history.
