The US is its own worst enemy, but since you specified "military threat" I'd have to say CHINA because they outnumber us so tremendously, and there's talk of possible EMP strikes from China int he next 12-18 months (yeah I know ... tin foil hat, conspiracy theory, right-wing nutcase, etc ... ).

The strongest military threat to the US would be the Russians. They aren't our allies and had a substantial arms industry. However, the US is the only superpower in the world today. The Russian military is poorly run and many of the aircraft and ships are manufactured with what in the US we would call "shoddy worksmanship"
China in no way poses a military threat to the US. Their most advanced fighters are stripped down export versions of Russian jets and the majority of their jets and tanks were considered "state of the art" in the 70s.
An in both countries, training at best is minimal. In the likely event of war with either country, the US would wins hands down. The only question is how long would it take and how many Americans would die.
Iran poses a threat as well. They too have an indigenous arms industry as well as a large militia. The Iranian Revolutionary Guards are comparable to the Nazi Waffen-SS. The Iranian Army is pretty bad given they were thoroughly beaten by the Iraqi army which the US military destroyed in four days during the Gulf War. The Air Force is shrouded in secrecy and the navy is practically non-existant.
The other countries that pose a threat are American allies like Japan, South Korea, United Kingdom, Germany etc.

First would be China, because China have over one billion people and more than a quarter of its people are young adults that are in the Chinese Army. If we were to have a war with China, we will be out numbered, since the America's population is only over 300 million people and that only ten to twenty percent are in the military that is already stretched out and under funded.
Second, would be India, the same reason as China, they will outnumbered us, also they have nuclear capabilities.
Third would be North Korea and Pakistan, North Korea is a communist country that is lead by dictator who is narcisstic and egomaniac. While Pakistan is an ally, the fact that many of the fugitives from Al-Qaeda is hiding in the country that has nuclear arsenal.
Fourth would be Iran, besides having a nuclear arsenal and many believe to harbor former Al-Qaeda and Taliban, we had some bad relationship with Iran back in the 70's and 80's also that it had express that it does not like America.
Fifth, Russia, though Russian Federation had broken up and it has chosen the Democratic way, the fact that Russian government still has many nuclear arsenal that are still working and that their army are comparable to those of North Korea.
Sixth, would be the South American, specially under Hugo Chavez that expresses the feelings of not liking the U.S
Seventh, hardly anyone would notice but Israel have the military power that is supplied by the US weaponry and many of their infantry are more experience than our army infantrymen.

I cannot foresee any country putting its armed forces against the US. The only remote possibilities are Iran should they decide to drive the US out of the Middle East, N. Korea should it invade the South again and possibly China should it decide to conquer Southeast Asia. I'd rate any of those three as unlikely as, say, Cheney running for and winning the presidency. No, the next forces the US battles will fight defensively after being attacked preemptively, like the Iraqis were.

Iran + Russia + Pakistan + Syria + China + Venezuela, and that's just the significant ones, and the ordinarily insignificant ones are becoming more significant by the day. Time to get real, time to wake up and smell the coffee.
