i crashed into a sign inside a hospital parking lot. it was a medium sized sign on 2 posts mounted into the concrete and security said it seemed kind of wobbly and was still in the concrete. management is still deciding if i am responsible and if any repairs need to be done. i know there is know way to tell exactly but just a ballpark do you think my 5000 (minimum california property damage insurance) will covere it or is it way more? (the reason i hit it was because i passed out after i left the emergency room because i didnt have insurance and i decided i didnt want treatment) i signed a waiver saying i left against hospital will (but no doctor was present to sign) if i was stuck with an unpayable bill would this document without any physicians signature mean anything? (trust me the last person i would want to sue is a doctor but i just want to know if i have any leverage

I think you need an attorney.

You left the ER on your own, it was YOUR decision to get behind the wheel of the car and drive it ! You signed the LAMA form, and yes it is valid even if the doctor did not sign it right then in front of you, he/she probably signed it within a few minutes. The fact that you left is also documented in your medical chart by the nurse along with documentation about everything detail of your ER visit from the time you walked in the door. So if you are going to try to blame the ER for YOUR decisions, I think you have better get a really expensive, snaky lawyer to represent you, but if you can afford such a person, then why can't you afford helath insurance? Your car insurance will probably take care of any property damage that was caused by your accident, I do hope you notified them and the police at the time of the accident.

So you made the decision you did not want to pay for treatment and to leave a hospital, get behind the wheel of a several thousand pound automobile ....hit a sign ...and it's someone else's fault?

If you are adult enough to own and automobile, operate an automobile, vote, own property, buy handguns and purchase beer...you are adult enough to accept responsibility for your own actions and the consequences of those actions.

If your insurance policy is not enough to cover the damage, then act like an adult and contact the hospital about setting up a payment plan to pay them back for the damage to the sign.

Well, I was guessing $5,000 to $10,000, assuming it's a lit sign. Could be more, because they'll have to tear out the old sign, buy the new one and have it installed.

You have NO leverage here - you left the emergency room in a state not fit to drive, and drove anyway. Two totally seperate incidences, sorry.
