Yeah it's entirely possible. Even many people today look at early religions in that way.
I was raised in a Catholic family in a Catholic church but I turned out to be Agnostic. =\ I don't think there's anything wrong with Catholics or the Catholic religion in general, I just can't stand the people who shove religion down your throat and are constantly telling you whether you're right or wrong in your beliefs and how you're going to hell.
Yes, I think THOSE people are crazy.
(Actually way back when priests actually DID sell "Tickets" to heaven to make money. Just thought that was interesting/ironic.)

As time goes on, I'm wondering if the different segments of Christianity are going to become one generalize Christian sect of religion (no more Catholic, Lutheran, Protestant, etc..., just Christian). At that point, I have to wonder what state the world will be in to have Christian and simply non-Christian. When we look back, what exactly will people think about Catholics? Lutherans? Baptists?
I'm Catholic, but have had trouble finding a place in any sort of church. I, too, have noticed that there is some sort of contest as to whom can place the bigger buck in the basket as it's getting passed around.
So, yeah...I don't know if anyone will consider Catholicism a cult, but I do wonder if it will exist in the form it exists, today.

When you have a church that tells you to do one thing and then looks the other way while their own workers are doing far worse, assist the offender by moving him around so that he can molest eve more young boys, then cover it up but after being confronted with irrefutable evidence, try to buy the silence of the victims, what would you think of the followers of that faith?Yes,crazy does come to mind, preceded by an expletive. The pope should have to hock his crown as well as the rest of the churches assets but, that's just my thoughts as a non believer.

It's not the money that I care about. There is always more money. It's their idolatry and the acceptance of pagan traditions in full view of scripture that I have marveled at. They directly make null the scriptures by what they claim. They actually think that the "Church" saves people. They actually think that Mary is a mediator. When the Bible clearly says that Jesus saves those who trust God, and the Bible says that Jesus is the ONLY mediator between man and God.
But they ignore that for the sake of their traditions!

As Sam Harris says, "If a person says a few words in Latin over a bowl of corn flakes and thinks they turn into the body of Elvis, that person would be crazy. But if you're in a Catholic church and a guy in a funny hat says a few words in Latin over a cracker and thinks that it turns into the body of Christ, that's not crazy, it's Catholic, but it's exactly the same process."

No. Most of them are pretty cool.
Your Catholic theology is horrible...for a Catholic, at least.
1) Catholicism teaches that salvation is not bought; it is a gift from God.
2) Catholicism also teaches that "the gates of Hell shall never prevail" against the Church.

OMG I AM TOTALLY WITH YOU. I am absolutely NOT catholic and churches are money rackets. And when we die, all those catholics are going to look back and see how they wasted so much time and money "praising and worshipping" jesus, a man who is not much different than my dad. The bible is another form of the telephone game, the stories change. In the telephone game, which lasts about 5 minutes wth 20 people, starts off with " I like apples" and ends up being "dirty hippo sex". And the bible is like a million years old, so do you sincerely think that the stories stayed the same? I think not. Next time they go buy with the basket, don't put your money in it. >.<

Some people say that now about us. So what. It doesn't mean that it's true. Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe all of the worldly opposition to the Church might suggest that what Catholics believe is really true? That's my belief....
