He is very lazy and inconsiderate. Question is how can I get him to help out with the chores without being hostile?

He is my brother. I forgot to mention this. I moved over 7 states from home to move in with him. I do not want a new room mate for he is someone I can trust, yet I want it to be clean enough to have company over.

make a chart of what needs to be done and how many times a week, take turns picking which will be done by whom

I'm having a BBQ with some friends tonight, do you think you could clean this place up a little bit? Then if your request isn't being answered, well it's time to find somewhere else to live.

I am in the same boat! House meeting is what I'm thinking to go over rules and be on the same page with pitching in on chores!.... Hope you get it worked out.
